For the last 8 weeks the GSPCA have been caring for Sami the grey seal pup who was rescued sick and extremely thin at the end of December in Jersey.

We are pleased to report that Sami is growing stronger each day and eating fish extremely well.

Sami is still a long way off being ready to be released back to the wild and we are appealing for your support to help feed Sami.

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and head carer of marine mammals said "We are so pleased how Sami is doing and especially how well Sami is eating."

"It takes months to get the weight and condition back on a seal pup that has nearly starved to death so Sami will be with us for a few months yet."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "With over 300 animals needing feeding daily at the GSPCA we have to say Sami is one of the hungriest each day tucking in to many fresh mackerel and herring."

"It is wonderful to see how well Sami is eating but it will takes months of care before this young seal pup will be ready to go back to the wild."

"We are appealing for donations to help feed Sami and one of our BIG birthday wishes as we celebrate 144 years this week would be to refurbish the seal facilities and wildlife until we have at the GSPCA."

"It costs around £5 a day to care for Sami and for us to carry out the work we would like to do in the wildlife unit would cost around £8000 and any support no matter how little would be hugely appreciated."

"A huge thank you to all that have donated so far to Sami and all the animals in our care."

"This week we celebrate 144 years helping animals in Guernsey and like Sami further afield and it would be wonderful if anyone would like to help support us with GSPCA Purple Week which is happening now help raise funds and awareness of the work we do 24/7."
