Today at the GSPCA we welcomed our second group of Voluntourists.

6 holiday makers from the Crystal Serenity spent much of today learning about and helping animals in Guernsey.

This was the second group of its kind at the Shelter and for the second time after their morning at the GSPCA they left smiling having had an enjoyable time.

The group arrived at the Shelter just after 8am where GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne took them on a tour of the Shelter so they could get their bearings and to find out about the work we do and the history of the GSPCA as well as a little about Guernsey.

After the guided tour each were given a GSPCA Polo Shirt (these are on sale on our web shop) as part of the trip package, a quick photo was taken whilst they were clean and they met the team and were partnered with staff and volunteers Annie, Anna, Tony, Sarah, Inez, Jo, Duncan, Helen Holmes, Terry, Chris, Ellie and Ellie to help around the site.

From walking dogs to socialising cats, cleaning hedgehogs to mucking out kennels, caring for baby birds to feeding baby hoglets everyone got involved helping around the Shelter.

When asked what they enjoyed most here were some of the comments:

"Seeing all the hard work that goes on and also how varied the 'tenants' are."

Eileen Rynn from new York said "Seeing the animals and care they have." "It was absolutely perfect." "Wonderful people and wonderful care fr the animals."

Don & Cindy Sparkes from Texas said "The tour was great!" "We thank you all for all you do!" "We learned so much." "Hedgehogs Rock!"

Gordon Porth from New York said "The vast variety of animals, informative, professional, passionate host and friendly helpers."

Maria Hernandez from California said "The people and the diverse animals."

All of the voluntourists were very kind and shared lovely sentiments with the GSPCA about their short time at the GSPCA.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "What a lovely way to start the week today at the GSPCA."

"Not only did all 6 of the voluntourists from the Crystal Serenity Cruise Ship have a wonderful time at the GSPCA, but we also received a lovely card from one of the last voluntourists all the way from Canada with a donation and very kind words of thanks."

"Thank you to all 6 voluntourists for their help and support today at the GSPCA."

"Next week we are holding guided tours of the Animal Shelter and if anyone would like to have a look around then please book your place on 257261 as space is limited."
