Last month the Fire Service kindly helped the GSPCA rescue a trapped wood pigeon.

Michelle Champion GSPCA Warden who was called to the scene said “The pigeon was stuck between a window and safety glass at the Royal Terrace.”

“It kept trying to move but was absolutely stuck.”

“I pressed all the buttons on the front door to the building and eventually found someone to let me upstairs but there was no one in any one of the three apartments that I worked out it must belong to.”

“I left notes with all of them but I couldn’t leave the pigeon like that so I called the joint control room and asked if the fire brigade might come out.”

“The first officer went up but couldn’t reach however the fire officer who managed to reach the bird with a crow bar and his gibbon like arms inherited from my Dad!”

Steve Byrne GSPCA manager said “A huge well done to Michelle our GSPCA Warden and especially her brother Paul Bishop and those from the fire service for helping the trapped wood pigeon who is now back in the wild.”

“We always do all we can to help animals in need and only call the Fire Service as a very last resort.”

“We are always so thankful when the Fire & Rescue Service attend to help the GSPCA team and the animal in need.”

“If you need the help to rescue an animal in distress please first call the GSPCA as we work 24/7 on 257261.”
