Last year an 18 year old cat called Lucy was brought into the GSPCA as sadly her owner could no longer care for her.

As all rescues will know trying to find the older cat a new home is extremely difficult as most are looking to adopt kittens or young cats.

On Saturday the GSPCA team were overjoyed when after 9 months of care at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews Lucy finally found her forever home and this week we have had an update on how she is getting along....

Chrissie Golding new owner has sent a message from Lucy who has said "Just a little 'catch up' to let you know how I am getting on."

"I've had a lovely weekend getting to know my new Mum & Dad."

"On Saturday I got to sleep in my new bed and on my new sofa."

"I was very persistent in having a look at my new garden and I was allowed a 'supervised' tour, I loved the grass and even had a little jog to the tree and back!"

"In the evening we all curled up on the sofa and watched 'The Magnificent Seven' and I fell asleep.....again"

"I am eating my food and using my litter tray for no 1's & no 2's."

"I talk to Mum & Dad a lot when I want attention and now have a lovely purr."

"I'm loving my new grooming brush and I'm taking my medication without any fuss."

"I've attached some photos of me enjoying my new home."

"Thank you so much for looking after me."

"Lots of love Lucy."

Lucy finishes by sending lots of kisses.

Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said "We help so many cats at the GSPCA each year but we always struggle to find the older ones a home and to wave Lucy off was both sad for the team and a really happy feeling too."

"After 9 months caring for a cat you do get attached but there is no better feeling than seeing them off into their new homes."

"We have lots of other older cats in need as well as many other animals and if you are interested the best thing is to pop in any day after 11am to fill in a form and have a look around."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Although this week we celebrate our 144th year at the GSPCA last week was a great celebration for the team as we all loved Lucy the cat and it was great to see her off to her new home."

"Lucy is really sweet and the message she has sent is truly lovely and wonderful to hear she is so happy."

"We help over a 1000 cats in many ways every year at the GSPCA and thousands of other animals and without the support of the public from those that sponsor the animals to those that adopt them we really couldn't achieve so much.”

"With over 300 animals at the GSPCA we have many in need of homes and many needing support and if you can't adopt an animal there are ways to sponsor those in our care by becoming an Angel Pen Pal sponsor."

"If anyone has adopted an animal from the GSPCA please do send us a picture and update as we love to see how they are doing."

"Another way to get involved is to support our anniversary and GSPCA Purple Week starting this Friday celebrating 144 years helping animals in Guernsey."
