On the 27th and 29th April a team from State Street joined the GSPCA to help out and renew fences in desperate need.

The area contains the rehabilitation aviaries and is used to help birds of prey, baby birds, gulls, hedgehogs and more to rehabilitate as well as the occasional poultry or duck.

Not only did the team from State Street repair and put up the fences they donated the funds to enable the essential work to take place.

The team of four from State Street and on the Saturday an additional young man helping teamed up with the placements on the Work to Benefit scheme to carry out the work which took two days to complete.

Since teaming up with Social Security the GSPCA have helped over 20% of the unemployment in Guernsey with placements, training and opportunities to learn skills in the last 2 years.

The old fence panels were removed and the Work to Benefit team are looking to see what repairs and recycling can be carried out with the sections in reasonable condition.

Once removed the new panels were erected and additional fence preserve was added to give them a longer life.

State Street are the sponsors of the Guernsey Community Foundation Charity of the Year Award and when they found out about the work that goes on at the GSPCA to help the community they were keen to get involved and met up with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne to discuss ways they could support the Animal Shelter and the work that takes places 24/7.

At the GSPCA we were amazed and humbled in November when we were awarded the Guernsey Community Foundation Charity of the Year and extremely grateful to State Street for sponsoring the award and all of their help and support they have given since and especially for the wonderful new fence around our wildlife rehabilitation aviaries.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We would like to say a huge thank you to Andrew, Jake, Shaun, Lynn and her son Thomas from State Street who not only donated the funds but also put up the new fence around our wildlife rehabilitation aviaries which in recent months has had owls, buzzards, kestrels, baby blackbirds, hedgehogs, runner ducks and many other species in them."

"The fence was very old and was in desperate need of renewing and we are so grateful to State Street who we first met at the Guernsey Community Foundation Awards where they were sponsors and presented the GSPCA with the Charity of the Year which we really couldn't believe as there are so many amazing charities in Guernsey."

"It is amazing that we are so lucky to have so many amazing businesses like State Street Here in Guernsey who support us here at the GSPCA and if anyone is interested in getting invloved please do get in touch."

"If you would like to volunteer at the GSPCA our next volunteer induction evening is on Tuesday 23rd May at 630pm at the GSPCA and all are welcome although you must be over 13 years to help with the animals."
