On the 4th October it is World Animal Day and to celebrate the GSPCA & Alderney Animal Welfare are launching an event called Paws for a Pint.

We are asking pubs. restaurants, hotels and anyone that would like to get involved to please sign up.

With over 20 pubs already involved in Guernsey and a number in Alderney, why don't you get in touch to find out more.

From organising an event at your local, to popping GSPCA collection boxes on the bar, maybe an animal fancy dress competition or even karaoke with animal themed songs.

Only days after the GSPCA warn about fishing waste, another bird dies due to a fish hook

Submitted by Steve on 20:02, 22nd Jul, 2014 | 0

Last week at the GSPCA we issued a warning on waste and rubbish injuring animals, especially those at sea.

On Sunday the GSPCA were called out to an injured gannet at Port Soif.

Emma Trousdale from the GSPCA responded in the ambulance to rescue a gannet that had a fish hook through her eye.

Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "We rescue and help animals 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but the gannet rescued on Sunday must have been in a great deal of pain and it is hard to say how long the fish hook had been through the eye."

The GSPCA helps care for and rescue thousands of animals every year and without our wonderful volunteers we really couldn't do it.

From cleaning kennels to fundraising there are dozens of roles for volunteers to help the GSPCA and next Wednesday we have our second Volunteer Welcome and Induction Evening.

With the success of the first last month which drew a crowd of 18 new volunteers to the Shelter the second is planned for 6.30pm on the 17th July.

If you see kittens at Icart Point please let the GSPCA know

Submitted by GSPCA on 11:25, 10th Jul, 2013 | 1

This week we have received a young kitten that was rescued out at Icart Point.

The GSPCA are concerned that there may be others and if you are out in the area and come across any please get in touch with the Shelter.

Tiger as he has been named was found extremely thin, no mother in site and full of worms, fleas and may not have survived if he had not been rescued.

This time of year kittens are often rescued and brought into the GSPCA and just this morning another feral was rescued and brought in from the Bouet area who is now named Molly.
