Today at the Town Church hundreds on islanders enjoyed a wonderful soup lunch from 15 chefs from around Guernsey and one school.

Volunteers from a Bridge 2 Sri Lanka and Haiti as well as staff and volunteers from the GSPCA helped run the fund raiser while staff, chef, teachers and students competed for the 2012 Big Soup Kitchen Challenge winners plate.

The 2011 winner was Dave Matheson with his Caribbean Spiced Vegetable Soup with Chicken Jerk Strips.

We were so grateful to Waitrose who sponsored the event as well as those that made and baked cakes and cookies to sell on the day.Waitrose supporting The Big Soup Kitchen Challenge in Guernsey with the Bridge 2 Sri Lanka/Haiti and the GSPCA

We must thank the lovely Dean of Guernsey Paul Mellor for allowing us to use the church and to The Lieutanant Governor Air Marshall Peter Walker and his wife Lynda who attended and worked their way through tasting most of the soups as did the new ADC Marco Ciotti.

With one large or 3 small soups for just £5 as well as Recipe Booklets on sale for the first time a grand total of £2,487.25p was raised and we want to thank all those involved.

The Recipe Booklets can still be bought and/or emailed to you.  For more details email [email protected] . They will also be available at the OSA Pop Up Charity Shop on Smith Street for the Bridge 2 Sri Lanka/Haiti week which starts on the 10th December and the GSPCA week on the 17th December.
