An exciting opportunity as a Part Time Animal Collection Officer has recently come up at the GSPCA.  This is a diverse role where the lucky candidate will get involved with a variety of animal rescues, collections and work with all species of animals that Guernsey has to offer.

As well as dealing with a large range of species as an ACO you will be required to work both on your own initiative as well as part of a team.  You will represent the GSPCA and will be involved with helping the community and liaising with local businesses, vets and other animal charities.

From collecting a stray dog, to an injured cat, rescuing an injured seal pup to collecting an orphaned bird or hedgehog.  This role is extremely challenging and there are difficult situations and very upsetting incidents as an ACO you would need to be able to handle.

Geoff George who is the full time ACO at the GSPCA said ‘Over the past 15 years I have had to deal with seals to lion cubs.’ ‘I never know what to expect when I go out on a call, as each job is different.’ ‘I have seen horrendous cruelty as well as heroic acts of kindness.’

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager said ‘The Animal Collection Role is both a vital part of the GSPCA’s operation as well as integral in helping animal welfare in Guernsey.’
