On Friday we asked for name ideas for 19 budgies and 6 baby bunnies that were coming in to the GSPCA Animal Shelter.

We decided to call the new budgies - Brandi Pansy, Carl Sweetpea, Clemantis Harding, Gary Lotus, Iris McQuillan, Isla Honeysuckle, James Jasmine, Jenny Petunia, Jess Dahlia, John Rose, Kay Camellia, Laura Carnation, Lilly Wilkinson, Poppy Cathcart, Rob Bluebell, Shuan Zinnia, Sophia Orchid, Tamara Daisy and Tulip Huston.

Can you spot the theme?

They have joined our current budgies Will, Kate and Georgina.  We are currently monitoring them for a few days before looking for a new aviary home for them.

Shaun Zinnia and Jenny Petunia had to be separated from the group to receive treatment to their beaks and legs, and the team were saddened this morning to find Jenny Petunia who was very unwell sadly passed away last night, although Shaun Zinnia is responding well.

The baby bunnies that arrived on Friday were named Steal, Hubert, Eric, Elsie, Betty and Alice and we now have 23 rabbits in need of new and loving homes with more coming in very soon.

At the GSPCA the healthy budgies and many of our rabbits can be seen outside at the aviary by our car park and Bunny Hop Hill which over looks our pond.

All of our rabbits are neutered, vaccinated and treated for parasites before homing and we carry out a home visit.

Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Spring is always a busy time at the GSPCA and with all the budgies and 6 baby bunnies in on Friday we are even busier."

"We now have 23 rabbits in for homes and we are aware many more coming in very soon."

"Honey and Liquorice are two bunnies that have been in the longest and arrived over a year ago and are really sweet."

"If you can't help give one of the animals a home you can sponsor them through our Angel Pen Pal scheme."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager "On Friday I collected and checked over the 19 budgies and we gave them names with ideas from our social media."

"Two were a little unwell and sadly one of the older budgies that we named Jenny Petnia, despite having treatment and being kept in the warm inside passed away last night, but thankfully all the others are well and very happy."

"As well as a flight full of birds we now have another 6 baby bunnies and a further 2 came in on the weekend."

"We are always looking for homes for dozens of rabbits and help over 150 every year."

"Later this month we have guided tours at the GSPCA so if you would like to see many of these animals and behind the scenes please do get in touch or see our web site for details."
