Please help us to help animals in Guernsey.
The GSPCA has been helping rescue, rehome, rehabilitate and release animals in Guernsey since 1873 and we have been at our current site in St Andrews since 1929.
Thousands of animals come through our doors every year and many more are helped through our lost and found service to our Welfare Officers going out to investigate reports of cruelty and neglect.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
We are very lucky to have an Animal Shelter in the heart of Guernsey where we can take in and care for the wide ranging species of domestic and wild animals that we are asked to help every day in Guernsey. The facilities that we have range from those for seals to kittens, but sadly many of the buildings date back to the 1970's and some as far back as the 1950's.
At the GSPCA the animals get an excellent standard of care from trained and experienced staff and volunteers, but the facilities due to their age and condition are proving challenging and expensive to maintain. For these reasons we have developed at 10 year rebuild and redevelopment plan for the site and we need your help.
The first phase was looking at five of the oldest buildings into one new build which has enabled us to ensure we have the facilities to care for anything from cats to many oter species and has already housed a loggerhead turtle to 25 Slovakian puppies. It includes isolation and quarantine facilities, intake areas, new laundry and storage areas, an area for public to come and view the cats looking for homes, improving the electrical plant, reception and more.
The next phase we are looking at is a Wildlife Hospital and with over 2000 wild animals through our doors every year this is now a top priority and we need your help to make this a reality.
Within the plan other areas we are looking at are -
- Kennels
- Wildlife
- Seal facilities
- Aviaries
- Memorial Garden
- Stables
- Small domestic pet areas
