This week this announcement was made in Jersey due to Avian Flu and this week the States of Guernsey Vets issued this statement on the 20th July 2023 -

WARNING PLEASE KEEP AWAY FROM SEALS – Avian bird flu has been found in the carcasses of 5 dead seals on a beach in Cornwall

The Cornwall Wildlife Trust urged members of the public to stay away from all dead animals which wash up on beaches including seals, dolphins, porpoises, whales and sea birds. There has also been cases of bird flu in a dolphin in Devon, the Trust said on its website.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust have said -

‘The general public are advised against approaching and interacting with seals in the UK, even when the animals are in danger or distress.

Poultry keepers encouraged to register their details with the States Vets following continued outbreaks of avian influenza in th

Due to continued outbreaks of avian influenza ('bird flu') in the UK, the States Veterinary Officers would like to encourage all pet/commercial poultry keepers to register with them so that they can alert keepers of any disease outbreaks or any other health or welfare concerns that may arise.

Avian influenza is a viral infection of domestic poultry and other wild birds, such as migrating waterfowl. Poultry includes chickens, ducks, turkeys, geese, pigeon (bred for meat), partridge, quail, guinea fowl and pheasants.

Bird Flu Detected in Wild Birds in Warwickshire and advice in Guernsey

Highly pathogenic H5N6 bird flu has been detected in wild birds in Warwickshire.  

This is the second confirmed finding of the virus in the UK this winter, following the finding in Dorset earlier this month (January 2018). Tests have shown both cases are closely related to the H6N6 strain circulating in wild birds across Europe in recent months.
