Last night we held our fourth Volunteer Induction Evening where 24 people of all ages came along to find out about volunteering for the GSPCA.
Despite the weather the group of 24 potential new volunteers braved the weather to visit the Shelter to learn about the GSPCA, learnt about the roles available to help in, how to work safely at the GSPCA and were even given some home work to do.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager gave the talk and presentation in the training room at the Shelter and then after the talk spoke to each person finding out what they would like to do and arrange a start date.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘All four of the Volunteer Evenings have been a wonderful way to meet a group of caring individuals wanting to help animals in Guernsey.’
‘The first volunteer Richard has started this morning and already walking dogs and cleaning out on this inclement day.’
‘The Volunteer Induction Evenings have proved such a success we’ve already planned next years dates so anyone of any age can find out how they can help the GSPCA and get involved.’
‘There are age restrictions with some roles but no matter what age there is always a way to get involved here at the GSPCA.’
‘Whether doing your Duke of Edinburgh, wanting to add to your CV or want to give some time back to the community there are so many roles from mucking out to helping with the gardening and we are always looking to involve volunteers in the diverse roles here at the Shelter.’
The Volunteer Induction Evenings for 2014 will take place on the following Wednesdays at 6.30pm in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA.
