Yesterday the GSPCA had an extremely busy day starting off GSPCA Purple Week celebrating our 145th year.

It kicked off at the Vale Primary School first thing where GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne spoke to the hundreds of children at Vale Primary School about the work of the GSPCA and he found out about the fantastic ways they are getting involved.

The GSPCA were kept busy all day with the 500 animals in our care, showing visitors around, finding animals new homes , rescuing wildlife and much more.

At the end of the day we held our second volunteer induction evening of 2018 and welcomed 19 new faces to the team.

They were inducted and learnt about the work of the GSPCA and how they can get involved. All were given a volunteer pack and a Certificate of Attendance.

At the end of the evening the GSPCA Manager spoke to each about how they would like to get involved.

The volunteers were aged from 13 and up with 8 wanting to carry out their Duke of Edinburgh, 1 will be doing his work experience, 10 volunteers and even two new staff attended for their induction.

The first of the volunteers start today so GSPCA Purple Week has schools getting involved to new volunteers joining the team which is a great way to show that 145 years since being founded the work we carry out helping animals and the community is truly a 24/7 365 day undertaking.

So much so that at 1230am we had an injured guillemot brought in the early hours.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was lovely to talk to the children at Vale Primary School yesterday and find out how they are helping with the GSPCA Purple Week.”

“It was also fantastic to  welcome the 19 new volunteers and 2 new staff last night for their induction here at the GSPCA.”

“There are so many ways to get involved and support our work and we love to hear from those wanting to get involved.”

“The first volunteers are starting this afternoon and we’d like to thank everyone for coming along and we look forward getting everyone started.”
