Next week many beaches closed to dog walkers reopen for the winter season to our canine friends but the GSPCA want to highlight some concerns owners need to be aware of.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Next week many beaches reopen to allow dogs to be walked on them for the winter months.”
“This is very exciting for many but we have had reports of palm oil on our coast which can be very toxic to our beloved pets.”
The GSPCA are warning dog walkers taking their four legged friends to local commons of a current concern.
We once again have had reports of thorny seeds from what is believed is the Erodium Cicutarium also know as Redstem Storks Bill which get caught in your dogs feet and fur along many of the commons and grassy areas especially L’Ancresse, Port Soif and Chouet,
We are very lucky that most of Guernsey's beaches are dog friendly during the summer months. Saying this dogs are banned between 1st May and 30th September on the following –

Petit Bot
L'Erée
Vazon (Northern end)
Cobo
Port Soif
L'Ancresse
Pembroke
Dogs are not permitted on Lihou Island and Lihou causeway all year round.

Once again we have been blessed with incredible weather during April, but sadly there are only days left on many beached that owners can take their dogs.
As usual from the 1st May until the 30th September the restrictions mean that dogs are not allowed on the following beaches between these dates –

We have been blessed with incredible weather during April and with the Coronavirus social distancing restrictions and many off work, Guernsey beaches have never seen so many dogs on them each day.
We have been in touch with the States of Guernsey and confirm that the ban comes into force as usual from the 1st May until the 30th September. The restrictions mean that dogs are not allowed on the following beaches between these dates –
