Over recent years the GSPCA like many animal welfare charities have reviewed and looked at the way they operate and one thing that came out of the lock down challenges we faced was rehoming animals in different ways.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “In some ways the lock down years are fresh in many memories and in others much further away but during these challenging times many animal welfare charities reviewed and looked at the way we operate and help animals in need.”
“One of the amazing outcomes from this was looking at rehoming home to home.”
We are delighted to give an update of Herbie the cat who was Fernando adopted last October is doing well in his new home.
Ali Le Huray Animal Care Supervisor said “We always love to hear how the animals are doing after they have been adopted from the GSPCA.”
“It is wonderful to hear how well Herbie is doing in his new home and to see so many lovely pictures.”
There are many reasons cats come into the GSPCA.
Not all have loving caring starts to their lives and at the GSPCA we are always looking for farm or rural cats for those cats that didn’t have the kindest of upbringings or those cats that can be a bit grumpy with people.
Anna Paint GSPCA Animal Care Supervisor said “We currently have three cats with us that are more suited to a free roaming/rural life, Meet. Jim, Ramsey and Twiglet.”
Currently at the GSPCA we have 3 snakes in need of homes.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “At the GSPCA we have Enrique the Common Viper from Spain, Peter the Python and Corina the Corn Snake in need of new homes.”
“From Enrique who is tiny to Peter who is over 3 feet we really want to find these snakes the best home we can.”
“Ideally they need homes with experienced homes or those that have done a lot of homework on their care.”
“They all need specialist vivarium’s and all eat diets that might make those a little squeamish uncomfortable.”
At the GSPCA we currently have a bearded dragon called Claude in need of a home.
We are looking for experienced owner ideally who has a home to suit the needs of Claude.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said “Claude is one of many animals in need of a home.”
“He sadly came into the Shelter through no fault of his own and he is very sweet.”
“The first step in the process in adopting from the GSPCA is to complete an adoption form if you are interested.”
At the GSPCA we currently have a number of tortoise in need of homes.
We are looking for experienced tortoise owners who have a home to suit the needs of each of those looking for their forever home.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said “From cockerels to a Caribbean hermit crab you’d be surprised the animals in need of homes at the GSPCA.”
“We currently have a number of tortoises that are looking for homes who have come into our care for a variety of reasons.”
“We really would like experienced homes for our shelled friends.”
We have a real range of animals in need of homes at the GSPCA and two of them are Wiz and Blue two adult ring-necked parakeets.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said “From cockerels to a Caribbean hermit crab you’d be surprised the animals in need of homes at the GSPCA.”
“Two of our current parakeets in need of a home include Wiz and Blue which are two ring-necked parakeets.”
“Sadly this is the second time they’ve come into us through no fault of their own so we would love to find them that forever home.”
At the GSPCA we currently have a hermit crab in need of a home.
Tamatoa is one of the more unusual animals in need of a home.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have a number of animals in need of homes at the GSPCA from ferrets to cockerels, a king snake to a bearded dragon and Tamatoa the hermit crab is one of the most unusual.”
“Tamatoa arrived in April having been abandoned in his enclosure and thank fully despite his ordeal is doing very well."
At the GSPCA we love to hear how the animals adopted from the GSPCA are settling in and recently we heard from the owner of Elsie the 14 year old cat who was recently adopted.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Elsie arrived at the GSPCA last August with a number of health issues as a stray with no microchip.”
Earl is a wonderful male Japanese Quail on Sunday the was waved off to a new home by the GSPCA team who were overjoyed.
Earl was one of our longest ever residents as he arrived as a stray in January 2019 having been found as a stray.
