Yesterday just after 5pm the GSPCA Wardens were called out to three deceased chickens which had been dumped on a beach in the Vale.
They were found near the car park on Route du Pulias thrown onto the top of the rocks on the beach.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Last night our GSPCA Wardens were called out to 3 deceased chickens that appeared to be dumped on the rocks near the car park on Route du Pulais.”
“The birds had no form of identification and we have informed the States Vets.”
Meet one of our residents ‘Hi I’m Sam JR
I was dumped at Chouet tip, I couldn’t stand, my crown all burnt and I smelt pretty bad too! Matt Hill-Smith The GSPCA’s night warden collected me and took me straight to the GSPCA
The next morning I went to the vets, my future did not look very promising but the team at the GSPCA and RI vet team wanted to give me a chance! So I started my medication and within a week the difference, I could start walking!!!! I was a happy cockerel again!
Look at me now, I’m fabulous!!!!
Last week on the 1st March a stray cockerel was rescued near the reservoir.
The bird was found with a head injury and collected by Animal Collection Officer Geoff George and is being cared for at the GSPCA.
Geoff George Animal Collection Officer said "We rescued the bird on the 1st March and are appealing for an owner to come forward."
"Despite his head injury he is doing well and if anyone is missing any animal in Guernsey please do call us on 257261."
Tomorrow is Shrove Tuesday also know to many as Pancake Day and many of us will shopping for our ingredients. The GSPCA would like to remind everyone to think of the produce that you are going to use and please look to buy Animal Welfare friendly products such as free range eggs.
Although the EU legislation has forced many battery farms to improve their standards, chickens that live as free range birds have a much better quality of life.
Just over a week ago a mother chicken and her chick were rescued in Torteval.
The mother now named Catherine was extremely weak and thin when she was found and wouldn't have survived if the kind member of public hadn't rescued her and her daughter who is now called Charlotte in the cold weather we have been experiencing.
Both birds are doing very well and putting on weight every day.
This Shrove Tuesday many of us will shopping for our ingredients today. The GSPCA would like to remind everyone to think of the produce that you are going to use and please look to buy Animal Welfare friendly products such as free range eggs.

Last night at 1am the GSPCA Night Wardens Matt Hill-Smith and Jen Bradshaw were called out to a call they weren't expecting.
The GSPCA were contacted by the police to attend the scene at the Men's Toilets at North Beach Car Park in St Peter Port to find three adult Hens perching on the lavatory surrounded by bread.
They were quickly captured by Matt and Jen who transported them to the GSPCA Animal Shelter where Annabelle Janes a member of the GSPCA Night Staff Team checked them all over and made them comfortable.
After an operation to remove a lump from his throat and an overnight stay Nouska the Husky is back at the Animal Shelter and doing well.
The lump which was found after Nouska was signed over to the Shelter has now been removed and he is on pain relief, antibiotics and a special food to help his recovery.
We have sent the lump away to be diagnosed and will hopefully no longer cause Nouska and more issues.
