This week the GSPCA team were made aware of a very poorly thin seal pup along the Guernsey coast.
Head of Marine Mammals Geoff George did get very close to the pup yesterday but it manged to get away.
This morning we had another call and thanfully Geoff managed to contain the grey seal pup who is now back in intensive care at the GSPCA, separate to the other 6 seals in our care.
Last Friday a team of staff from IQ EQ spent a day volunteering at the GSPCA.
7 IQ EQ staff arrived at 9am to be greeted by Tim Pellett the GSPCA Training and Community Officer.
They started with a lovely picture at the front of the Animal Shelter before they began a day of helping around site and specifically painting many areas including the GSPCA Reception and Hospital Building.
Through the day they learnt about much of our work and met many of the team and finished with a tour of the site to see the many animals and much of our work.

At the GSPCA we continue to operate a cautious approach, but we are again recruiting volunteers that are 18 or older.
There are many opportunities to help our 24/7 work and for those interested please complete a volunteer application form and send it to [email protected]

At the GSPCA we are having to work very carefully in relation to Covid-19 as our work includes stray dogs from households that are carrying out their isolation time, animals being brought into Guernsey from both the UK and further afield, not mention our work at the borders.
We are often getting questions about animals and the rules here in Guernsey, especially in relation to transporting animals into Guernsey.
Sadly earlier this year the GSPCA had to postpone the GSPCA Animal Welfare Sunday which was due to take place in May due to lockdown and the Coronavirus Crisis.
Thankfully due to Phase 5 and the amazing #GuernseyTogether spirit, events can now take place and we are delighted to announce that this wonderful and biggest event that we hold each year will indeed take place this year on Sunday 13th September 2020, and not what was being planned in 2021.
The current pandemic has caused many challenges at the GSPCA as it has with everyone and across the world and we are incredibly thankful to all that have helped us with our #GSPCACoronavirusCrisisAppeal so far it is so appreciated and we couldn’t do so much without your support.
As well as much needed funds at the GSPCA there are a range of items we are desperately in need of. The largest is wish list item is a new GSPCA Animal Ambulance. Which has come at the worst time as we are so incredibly busy in Spring
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to both Sure Community Foundation and Helen Holmes for their amazing donations of iphones to help ensure we have operational lines for our 24/7 service.
We have been running our #GSPCACoronavirusCrisisAppeal since the start of the crisis, but there are always key pieces of equipment that we require to ensure we can operate and having recently had an issue with one of our emergency phones which failed we launched an appeal for a new iphone and cannot thank the Sure Community Foundation and Helen Holmes who donated a handset each.
