Dave the Razorbill and Galadriel the Guillemot are now back into the wild.

Dave was rescued on the 8th December on the Shingle Bank at L’Eree covered in oil and Galadriel was rescued at Grandes Rocques on the 10th December also covered in black oil.

After treatments and bathes by the GSPCA team both birds improved and after weeks of intensive care moved onto our rehabilitation pools. On Thursday they were fit enough to be released back to where they belong.

Happy New Year from the GSPCA but its certainly not a flying start for many Guernsey birds

Submitted by GSPCA on 16:31, 2nd Jan, 2014 | 0

The GSPCA team and all the animals would like to wish one and all a Happy New Year.

Unfortunately the New Year and the bad weather over the last few days has certainly not helped many of our feathered friends.

New Years Day Ambulance Collection Officer spent much of the day rescuing injured birds around Guernsey.

These included a Gannet that is now named Balthazar. Balthazar was rescued by ACO Geoff George after being found exhausted and thin near Kings Mill.

On the 8th February this year the GSPCA received a Razorbill from Alderney which had been affected by crude oil.

Staff at Alderney Animal Welfare had cared for the bird and done a wonderful job removing the crude oil from the its feathers after being found on the coast of Alderney. If it hadn't been for their staff this bird would certainly have perished.
