During GSPCA Purple Week we welcome 12 new volunteers to the team - 142 years after being founded

This week the GSPCA celebrate 142 years and are holding a number of events of GSPCA Purple Week.
As part of Purple Week we held our second volunteer induction evening of 2015 last night.
12 new volunteers arrived, some with family members and friends to find out about the work of the GSPCA.
At 6.30pm the induction began with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne talking about the work of the GSPCA, the areas that volunteers can help and how to work safely at the Shelter and our events.
After a 70 minute induction and presentation with a short break due to an injured bird arriving at the GSPCA, the volunteers were handed an induction pack and certificate of attendance.
Each new volunteer then had a chance to chat to Steve Byrne about how they would like to help and set a date to start.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Last night we held our second volunteer induction evening of 2015 at the GSPCA and we inducted 12 new helpers."
"From work experience to animal care volunteers, fund raising to Duke of Edinburgh, the new volunteers came from a variety of walks of life and ages."
"We have a number of events this week during our GSPCA Purple Week as we celebrate our 142nd year helping animals in Guernsey."
"We were founded 142 years ago by volunteers who recongnised animal welfare issues in Guernsey and the first ever meeting was chaired by the Dean of Guernsey back in 1873."
"Since then volunteers have played a crucial role here at the GSPCA and we are extremely grateful to all those that have helped through our long history, currently and we welcome the group that came along last night."
"We have volunteer inductions planned all through 2015 and if you are interested in helping please do come along."
We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles.
You need to be at least 14 years old to help at the Shelter.
If you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter.
To get started in Volunteering at the GSPCA we hold Induction Evenings and no matter your age their is always a way you can help.
The Volunteer Induction Evenings for 2015 will take place on the following days in the Event and Training Room at the GSPCA.
Wednesday 11th February GSPCA Alice in Wonderland Birthday week with a Purple theme
Tuesday 17th March St Patricks theme
Tuesday 28th April Superhero Day theme
Tuesday 26th May John Waynes birthday cowboy theme
Monday 22nd June Summer Solstice themed Bingo
Tuesday 14th July Bastille Day Bingo French theme
Wednesday 26th August Dog Day Bingo
Wednesday 16th September Mexican Independence Day Bingo
Monday 12th October Spain Day Bingo
Monday 30th November St Andrews Day Scottish Bingo
Each of the Bingo nights are £14.50 per person or £10.50 for children. They start at 7pm and for the price it includes Food and 8 Games of Bingo.
Fancy dress and bringing a musical instrument is optional, but encouraged.
Menu – Is a themed buffet with Vegetarian and Dairy, Wheat and Gluten free options
