GSPCA Purple Month – Volunteer Induction Evening 630pm Wednesday 8th February 2023

This month we celebrate 150 years with GSPCA Purple Month and without volunteers we would have never of been founded.

On 11th February, 1873, a meeting was convened in the rooms of the Societe Guernesiaise “for the purpose of considering the expediency of establishing in the Island a Societe for the suppression of Cruelty to Animals” and the Dean of Guernsey was called to the Chair. The Patron of the Society was His Excellency Lt. General Froome.

GSPCA Purple Month – Father and Sons joint birthdays raise funds for the GSPCA

Last weekend Adam Powell and Robin Powell, father and son celebrated their 40th and 70th respectively.

On the night they decided they would like to collect donations for charity in lieu of gifts and chose the GSPCA.

The party took place at the Imperial and a fabulous evening was had raising an amazing £198.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thank you to Adam and Robin Powell for raising an amazing £198 for our work at the GSPCA at their recent joint 40th and 70th birthday party at the Imperial last Saturday.”

GSPCA Purple Month – Happy tails as Captain Birdseye swims off to his new home

You may recall last month the GSPCA helped rescue a goldfish abandoned in a bucket being attaked by a gull.

We are delighted to report that although we had no leads to an owner we have managed to find Captain Brirdseye a new home.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Sadly during the 21 stray days Captain Birdseye the abandoned goldfish had to stay for at the GSPCA we did not find an owner.”

“However we are absolutely delighted that he has found a new home and was collected recently and we wanted to share the happy tail as part of the GSPCA Purple Month celebrations.”

Are you supporting us celebrating 150 years this February with GSPCA Purple Month?

February 2023 the GSPCA celebrates 150 years since being founded and here are a few ideas to get involved with this momentous mile stone.

The celebrations all kick off on the 1st February as we were founded in the middle of the month and throughout the month we will have a very Purple theme and lots happening through the following 12 months as we will be running a range of events and celebrations and we need your help to make it an extra special month and year.

Happy Chinese New Year from the 45 rabbits at the GSPCA and concerns of abandoned rabbits at L’Ancresse

This Chinese New Year celebrates the year of the rabbit and the GSPCA are currently experiencing the highest numbers of rabbits in our care in many years.

Alex Soulsby GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “2023 is the year of the rabbit!”

“If you’ve been considering adding rabbits to your family, or you have a single rabbit and you’re thinking about perhaps wanting to find them a friend, we have lots of rabbits looking for their forever homes.”

Cleopatra the first seal pup of 2023 rescued and in care at the GSPCA

In the early hours of Saturday morning the GSPCA were called out to rescue a grey seal pup at Petit Bot which is now at the GSPCA.

Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals said “1230am Sunday morning we were called out to a young seal pup we have called Cleopatra who was just 18kgs.”

“Very poorly, weak dehydrated, very snotty and less than half the weight she should be.”

“She was found at Petit Bot and is needing feeding around the clock.”
