Long Shredded Paper, Blanket and Towel Appeal at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 17:03, 9th Mar, 2021 | 0

As Guernsey has gone through 7 weeks of our second lockdown many incoming donations have been affected, not just financially.

At the GSPCA we are currently appealing for long shredded paper for the hedgehog bedding and with over 140 in our care we have a lot to look after.

Normally with offices working and many in the work place we would have a great supply but with most people working from home we have not had our normal supplies and we are in need of long (not cross) shredded paper.

The GSPCA couldn’t achieve so much without our trained staff and we are excited to announce two full time posts have become available as sadly two of the team in recent months returned to their homeland.

We also have casual posts especially for those available during weekends and bank holidays.

The full time posts include various duties from animal care to reception and the successful applicants will also be required to help cover night shifts at the GSPCA which tend to be over the weekend.

Each year the GSPCA helps in excess of 2000 wild animals and birds through our doors at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

Last year we saw a record breaking number of hedgehogs with over 700 through our doors and we currently have over 140 in our care and with Spring fast approaching we will soon see hoglets being born.

We are already helping fledglings and baby birds like Dave the duckling who is doing well.

Can your pets party like a #GSPCAPartyAnimal?

Submitted by Steve on 12:49, 2nd Mar, 2021 | 0

The GSPCA is asking islanders to help celebrate its 148th birthday by tagging the charity in photos of their pets in their best virtual party outfits on social media using #GSPCAPartyAnimal.

Manager of the GSPCA, Steve Byrne said, “Like many others who had birthdays during lockdown, we didn’t get the party or celebrations we were wishing for. So, to embrace the Guernsey Together spirit and lockdown restrictions, we’re moving our celebrations online and asking local pets and their owners to get involved virtually.”
