If we didn't have volunteers at the GSPCA we couldn't exist, as every day kind individuals give up their own time to help the Animal Shelter and the work that goes on around the clock.
In a very basic calculation volunteers gave up well in excess of 13'000 hours during 2012 which is the same as 300 people working one 40 hour week.
From dog walkers to fund raisers, night wardens to receptionists, gardening to mucking out the GSPCA are grateful to each and every person that gives up their time to help the many animals in our care.
Yesterday was the GSPCA Summer Fayre and Fun Dog Show at Fairfields.
With over 200 dogs, over a 1000 visitors and a very sunny day a fantastic time was had with a lot of fun and some stunning dogs.
The GSPCA would like to thank all the volunteers and helpers as well as all those that supported the Dog Show which was all about celebrating the dogs of Guernsey.
There were stalls and games as well as plenty of refreshments and a BBQ which was ideal for such a sunny day.
Also many of the owners and some of the dogs enjoyed an ice cream or two.
We are appealing for help for this Sundays dog show and summer fayre.
If you have tombola or raffle items that you can donate for the day please either pop them into the Animal Shelter or on the day to the event at Fairfields.
Also if you can help most volunteers are arriving from 9.30am on Sunday to help set up.
For full details on how to help and the last blog about the day please read below.

The second stray tortoise we have had in at the Shelter is still looking for her owner.
If you think that this may be your lost tortoise then please call the GSPCA on 257261 or pop into the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The tortoise was found in the Vale area on the 18th May and is a female Hermans adult.

Today is World Turtle Day and the GSPCA is remembering this by reflecting on a Green Turtle the Animal Shelter rescued 10 years ago this year.
On the 13th January 2003 a live Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) was stranded on the west coast of Guernsey.
Elliot Green and his son who were playing football and Mary Harrison discovered a turtle that afternoon on Grandes Roques Beach and reported it to the Animal Shelter.
