India the Guernsey seal pup who was rescued in March and Joey the Jersey seal pup rescued in November have finally had the all clear from the vets, their weights at a great release weight and we have good weather so we are planning to release the seal pups at a secret location this week.

Thanks to the huge efforts of Geoff George and the team the seal pups who were so thin and unwell on arrival are finally off back to the wild where they belong.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “India and Joey the seal pups are ready to be released back to where they belong.”

Puppy Bumble Bea popped to the GSPCA to be microchipped for just £4.99

Submitted by Steve on 14:53, 1st Sep, 2021 | 0

At the GSPCA we have offered microchipping for your cat, rabbit or dog for only £4.99 for nearly 10 years.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The GSPCA helps over 1500 domestic animals every year and sadly only 80% of dogs and cats are microchipped meaning of the 200 stray dogs and 3-400 stray cats we help we struggle with many to quickly identify owners and some of the microchip details aren’t up to date.”

Submitted by Steve on 14:26, 1st Sep, 2021 | 0

With less than 2 weeks to go, the GSPCA are busy preparing for the tenth Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.

Despite the restrictions last year we saw over 100 stalls at our biggest event of the year and 2021 is looking to once again be a bumper year.

We would be delighted if any stalls or buskers would like to join us to help celebrate animals in Guernsey.

RIP Eddie the much loved Shelter cat

Submitted by Steve on 13:56, 1st Sep, 2021 | 0

Many visitors to the GSPCA over the last 15 years will remember Eddie a black cat that arrived as a feral and who decided to make the Animal Shelter his home.

Over the years Eddie relaxed into his older years and became very friendly with many of the team and visitors.

Sadly his health has been deteriorating and on the weekend the GSPCA were extremely saddened as Eddie passed over to Rainbow Bridge.

Eddie will remain in our hearts and our memories.

WARNING TO ALL RABBIT OWNERS – Diseases killing rabbits in Guernsey and advice

Submitted by Steve on 10:38, 1st Sep, 2021 | 0

The GSPCA is asking all rabbits to take great care as Rabbit Haemorraghic Viral Disease (RHVD2) variant 2 is being seen once again here in Guernsey and a surge of rabbits with myxomatosis are being seen with the large numbers of rabbits around Guernsey.

These fatal diseases are a huge risk to unvaccinated rabbits and especially to those in outside enclosures.

The GSPCA helps over 150 wild and domestic rabbits every year, although this year we have already had over 323 through our doors since the 1st January.

What is RHVD2?
