We all know how stressful it feels to be locked inside so let's make sure our rabbits always have the space they need to exercise and explore; keeping them mentally and physically fit and well.

Update from Mr Ronald the bunny doing well in his new home

We love to hear how the animals are doing which were adopted from the GSPCA and we recently heard from Mr Ronald the bunny who joined a home where other bunnies ad been adopted from the GSPCA.

Lucy Langlois the new owner said “Mr Ronald has settled into his new home!”

“Please send a massive thanks to Nicole for all of her kindness and knowledge with helping us re-home bunnies.”

“They have all settled into their new home wonderfully.”

Jemima the longest stay bunny in need of a special home

Beckie Bailey tells us about Jemima the bunny “Jemima has spent 873 days at the shelter looking for her forever home. “

“Jemima did not have the best start in life, thats why she was brought into the shelter.”

“She was paired up with a male rabbit for sometime, they were getting on swell. Randomly the male attacked her and bite her badly on her genital area. She was rushed to the vets and had surgery. Jemima had a slow but successful recovery. Jemima is scarred physically but also mentally, she is now scared of other rabbits.”

Happy Birthday Hazel and Lavender who were born at the GSPCA this time last year and still need a home

This time last year we had a litter of baby bunnies born at the GSPCA.

A year later Hazel and Lavender two of those baby bunnies are still here and looking for their new and forever home.

GSPCA Adoption and Rehoming all moved online and over the phone - PLEASE DO NOT VISIT THE SHELTER AT THIS TIME

Due to Coronavirus the GSPCA is only operating essential services.  All of our rehoming is now online, telephone and through the post as we are avoiding visitors to the Shelter at all costs in line with advice from the States of Guernsey.

With animals still arriving and being rescued, unwanted, stray and abandoned the GSPCA have to look at ways we can help rehome animals in our care.

FOUND 2 STRAY RABBITS – Lop eared grey and white bunny found at L’Ancresse and poorly black lop bunny at Pleinmont

Last night the GSPCA wardens were called out to rescue a stray bunny from L’Ancresse.

The very friendly grey and white adult lop eared rabbit sadly has no microchip and the GSPCA is appealing for information to get this lovely rabbit home.

Earlier in the day the GSPCA Ambulance Driver was called to help another poorly black rabbit which was also a lop eared rabbit, but this one was found at Pleinmont.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Just after 9pm last night our GSPCA Volunteer Wardens arrived with a lovely grey and white lop eared rabbit that was found at L’Ancresse.”

It was certainly a hoping Easter at the GSPCA with bunnies

The GSPCA has recently seen a huge rise in the numbers of rabbits coming into our care.

With 25 rabbits looking for new homes and many more coming in over the next few days Easter was certainly a busy time at the GSPCA for those that care for the rabbits.

Many of the GSPCA rabbits looking for homes are now outside on our Bunny Hop Hill and we are not only appealing for new homes for those in our care but we are also appealing for funds to help build new enclosures for the rabbits at the GSPCA.

Adopt Don’t Shop say adoptees of bunnies from the GSPCA

The GSPCA has been exceptionally busy with rabbits and baby bunnies in recent months.

With 25 currently at the Shelter we are still very busy and in need of homes.

Beckie Bailey GSPCA Animal Care Assistant and head of the bunnies said “We have had over 50 rabbits in our care recently and it has been very busy.”

“There also a number of diseases that affect rabbits here in Guernsey and we urge all rabbit owners to see their vet to ensure they are vaccinated and up to date with their medical needs.”

Beautiful friendly stray black and white rex rabbit found near La Hougette School

Last night a member of public while out found a very friendly black and white rex rabbit near La Hougette School.

Now in the care of the GSPCA, we are appealing to anyone that has lost their rabbit to please call the Shelter on 257261 or to pop in to the GSPCA in St Andrews.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Last night was a very busy night shift a one of the strays to arrive that we are still trying to find an owner is a very pretty and friendly black and white rex adult rabbit.”

WARNING TO ALL RABBIT OWNERS - Rabbit Haemorraghic Viral Disease 2

The GSPCA is asking all rabbits to take great care as Rabbit Haemorraghic Viral Disease (RHVD2) variant 2 has been discovered once again here in Guernsey.

The fatal disease is a huge risk to unvaccinated rabbits and especially to those in outside enclosures.

Last year the GSPCA were in close communication with local vets and the States Vet after the disease was discovered for the first time in Guernsey which resulted in a number of deaths and many rabbit owners vaccinating their pets.

The GSPCA helps over 150 wild and domestic rabbits every year.
