On Friday last week the GSPCA welcomed a team of 11 Specsaver staff who spent the day volunteering at the Shelter.
Suzanne, Sylvia, Gill, Sadie, Emma, Jason, Julie, Polly, Maurice, Melissa and Chris arrived at 9am sporting very nice clean Specsaver t-shirts, but it wasn’t long before they were well worn in.
The team had a quick welcome and induction, then were split into groups to help the animal care departments.
Suzanne and Polly helped on the Hedgehog Unit and scrub out the seal room. Sylvia, Gill and Jason helped clean out the rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs and birds while Sadie cleaned the boarding cats. Emma, Julie and Melissa cleaned and walked the dogs whilst Maurice and Chris scrubbed out the cattery and cuddled kittens.
They all spent the morning cleaning, scrubbing and helping care for the 300 animals and birds at the Shelter.
After building a good sweat up in the morning the 11 strong team spent the afternoon setting up for the GSPCA Summer Fayre and Fun Dog Show which was held on Saturday. From blowing up balloons to putting tents up, decorating the Shelter to arranging all the goods and games.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘It was a fantastic day and we couldn’t have set up for our Dog Show without them.’ ‘At the end of the day they were all up beat and thoroughly enjoyed themselves although all were very tired after a very physical day.’ ‘A special thanks must go to each and every one of them, as they all worked so hard and thank you to Specsavers who allowed them to come along and help.’
