It is rare for dogs to be with us looking for homes for any length of time but occasionally we see those that we find a challenge to locate their forever home.
Seb Goman Senior Welfare and Animal Care Assistant tells us “ This week, the Shelter bid a heartfelt farewell to Stewie, a special dog who had been in our care for one year and seven months.”
“When Stewie first arrived, he was very wary of strangers, but with time, patience, and the dedication of our staff, he made incredible progress.”
“During his stay, Stewie was fostered by our wonderful foster carers, Cameron and Becky, who provided him with a loving home environment and invaluable feedback on his progress.”
“Their support played a key role in helping Stewie gain confidence and prepare for his forever home.”
“Now, Stewie has finally found his perfect match!”
“His new family has already enrolled him in training classes to support his ongoing development, showing their commitment to giving him the best life possible.”
“We couldn’t be happier for Stewie and his new family, and we wish them all a lifetime of love, happiness, and adventure together!”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Although we help over 200 stray and lost dogs every year, hundreds with their care for boarding, attend around 100 dogs a year for possible welfare concerns or for advice, see 100’s attend for training classes, microchip and do so much more to help dogs we only rehome 15-50 dogs in a year through the Shelter.”
“Most dogs now are rehomed through our home to home service but when those needing to come in for rehoming do mostly they are in and out extremely quickly.”
“Occasionally there are dogs that arrive that need a little more time and Stewie has been one of those.”
“Stewie a cross breed at just under two years old had to come into our care as his owner was moving and couldn’t take him with them and was in our and foster care for exactly 600 days but the team are overjoyed he is now in his forever home.”
