Animal Cruelty - 2 arrested transporting 25 dogs in Guernsey

On Thursday 27th August, the States Vet received an official notification of concerns for the welfare of 25 dogs being transported in a van from Slovakia to the UK via Guernsey on board the ferry from France.

Guernsey Border Agency officers stopped the van and in conjunction with the States Vet the animals were removed to the GSPCA because of concern for their condition.

On 28th August 2015 at 6pm, Guernsey Police arrested 2 Slovakian nationals, a male (59yrs) and female (27) who were transporting the animals, for cruelty to animals and fraud - believed to be in possession of forged paperwork/animal passports.

They were later charged with an offence under section 8 of ‘The Animal Welfare (Guernsey) Ordinance 2012’ for failing to ensure the animals were free from discomfort and given police bail with conditions, to prevent them leaving the Island, they are due to appear in Court on Wednesday 2nd September 2015 at 9.15hrs.
