The GSPCA are reminding dog walkers that once again from tomorrow you can take your canine friend on the beaches around Guernsey.
Guernsey has restrictions on a number of beaches during the Summer months which are then lifted during the Winter.
With the restrictions lifted the GSPCA would like to remind pet owners to be mindful of the Wildlife that live and feed along the shorelines.
Here is a breakdown of the restrictions which have been lifted as of the 1st October until the 30th April.
Dogs are not allowed on or off lead on the following beaches between 1st May – 30th Sept:
Fermain
Petit Bot
L’Eree
The Northern end of Vazon
Port Soif
Cobo
L’Ancresse / Pembroke
Dogs are also excluded from Shell Beach, Belvoir Bay, Fisherman’s Beach and the stretch of beach in front of the White House Hotel to the Herm Jetty.
All of the above beaches are clearly sign posted at key access points to inform members of the public when dogs are to be excluded from these areas. (The Control of Dogs Ordinance 1992)
Dog walkers are also asked to avoid Richmond and Vazon to help the wading birds that feed and rest along the stretch of coast.
Please also note that horses can't be ridden on the shore lines between 10am and 7pm during these dates.
Vehicles are also banned from the beaches during the day times unless you have permission. The coastal speed limit at Cobo and Vazon also drops to 25 miles per hour from the 1st May until the 30th September.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Although the days are getting shorter it's that wonderful time again when many of the beaches are open to dogs and their owners around our shores."
"Many of us enjoy taking our dogs down to the beaches, but at the GSPCA we are reminding everyone to please be mindful of the wildlife that lives there."
"Not only do many wading birds use our shorelines for migration and their homes, it will soon be pupping season for our Bailiwick grey seals and dogs can easily scare the mothers away so please do take care."
