Do remember Catrina the cat who nearly died last year?
She was found having been hit by a car on a cold, dark, wet evening with multiple injuries, very thin and weak.
It took many months for Catrina to get back to health which included operations, medication and a lot of TLC.
Just before Christmas Catrina was given the okay to be rehomed by the vet and it didn’t take long to find her a wonderful new family.
We’ve just heard from Catrina’s new mum and wanted to share the great news.
Sarah Whitehead who is Catrina’s new owner said “Catrina, what can I say other than she’s absolutely adorable and we’re so happy to have her with us.”
“We’ve always had cats but never looked for them – they’ve always found us, so it was quite a different experience for us this time round.”
“Sadly we lost our dear cat to a RTA in November and so when I read about Catrina, she pulled at the heart strings.”
“Here was another poor soul, having endured a similar experience to our own boy…but she survived!”
“When we visited her, It was lovely to see the relationship that Anna and Ashleigh had with Catrina and we hoped that with time and lots of love she would take to us similarly.”
“We haven’t been disappointed."
“She’s settled in very well, got used to our routines and is very much a part of the family, albeit a rather naughty one!!”
“It’s amazing that after all she’s been through that she still has the ability and energy to get up to mischief.”
“She’s an adept scratcher and we now have scratching posts strategically placed in front of furniture throughout the house.”
“In all fairness she uses them quite a lot but there’s still nothing quite as satisfying as the arm of a sofa!”
“Family meal times can be entertaining too.”
“You can see from the photo that her new favourite place, when food is around, is the back of a kitchen chair….just in case someone should carelessly leave their plate unattended!”
“She has the run of the house and does like a cuddle on the bed at night but around 04.30 she starts crying for food …not for much longer though, as an automatic feeder is wending its way from Amazon as we speak!!”
“Both yourselves at the GSPCA and the staff at Isabelle Vets have achieved so much in giving this little girl her life back and rest assured, moving forward, we’ll do our best to continue your kindness and good work by keeping her happy, healthy and well loved.“
Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said “It is wonderful to see Catrina so happy after terrible ordeal when we first rescued her.”
"We see hundreds of cats hit by cars every year and Catrina was very lucky."
“We have many older cats in need of special homes at the GSPCA.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “When our ambulance drivers went out to rescue Catrina it was such a cold, wet, dark night.”
“She was rushed to the vets and we really didn’t know if she would survive with her injuries.”
“It is so heart warming a year on to know she is doing so well in her loving new home.”
“We have many animals in need of loving new homes from birds to guinea pigs and quite a few older cats like Catrina.”
“Many animals in need of homes can be seen on our website, as can our adoption procedure.”
“A huge thank you to Sarah and her family for giving Catrina a loving home and for the wonderful update.”
"Not everyone can offer a pet a home, but there are many ways to support those in need in Guernsey such as sponsoring a pen."
