Yesterday Ambulance Collection Officer had a very unusual call to collect what sounded like a stray snake on the beach.
The call came via the police after being spotted by some passers by walking along the front at Halfway in St Sampsons.
Geoff George attended to find a very cold stray corn snake.
Now named Chilli and in a warm vivarium at the GSPCA Animal Shelter we are appealing for the owner to come forward.
At around three feet long it is not possible to age Chilli but if you think this is your snake please call the Shelter on 01481 257261.
Geoff George ACO said 'Chilli was very cold and not moving much when I attended to collect him.'
'Now nice and warm he is much improved, but he wouldn't have done very well with the recent cold weather if hadn't been found.'
'Corn snakes are part of the rat snake family and aren't indigenous to Guernsey but are from North America.'
'Snakes are extremely good at escaping and we do urge all owners of exotic species to ensure they have suitable enclosures which are secure.'
The GSPCA asks that if you are considering any type of exotic pet that you ensure you research and find out as much information as possible. To purchase the equipment and facilities to house many of these animals can both be very expensive and you then need to be aware of running costs to ensure appropriate temperature, humidity, feeding them the correct diets and the possible size they can grow.
If you would like to donate to the GSPCA and help us care for animals in Guernsey you can do so by calling into the Shelter, over the phone on 01481 257261 or by clicking the Paypal button below.
Thank you for your support.
