The Association of Guernsey Charities announced at the end of October that tickets for the 2012 Christmas Lottery went on sale for only £1 each. The GSPCA Animal Shelter can now announce that from tomorrow they will be on sale at the GSPCA reception desk in St Andrews. The traditional lottery always proves to be a popular choice as it offers the chance of winning a large sum of money - and all the proceeds are given to Channel Island charities.
As well as the GSPCA tickets are on sale at shops, stores, supermarkets, garages, and many other outlets around the island.
This year, the first prize will be a minimum of £300,000 - as usual, this will increase as more tickets are sold. There is a second prize of £50,000 and third prize is £25,000. There are also 45 prizes of £500.
Each Lottery ticket also includes a scratchcard (which this year has been simplified) where you can win an instant cash prize of up to £5,000.
Proceeds form all tickets sold in Guernsey are given to the Association of Guernsey Charities to distribute to local good causes. Last year, the 2011 Christmas Lottery raised a record breaking £213,898 which benefited 42 charities operating local projects or services.
The 2011 Christmas Lottery jackpot reached £751,500, and organisers have said that even more tickets have been printed this year so the jackpot first prize could climb even higher if tickets sell out.
On behalf of local charities, the Association is thanking everyone, including all the businesses, that support the traditional Christmas Lottery by buying tickets. They assure us that every penny raised will go towards helping many of the islands charities to carry out their work in 2013.
The GSPCA were lucky enough to get a grant thanks to this wonderful event from the 2010 proceeds and we strongly support this yearly activity that benefits so many charities in Guernsey.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We are so pleased to be supporting the Christmas Lottery as it helps so many worthy causes.' 'The GSPCA has benefited in the past and we are thankful to all those involved.' 'This year you can get your Christmas Lottery tickets from the GSPCA reception desk, so if you are passing please pop in for yours and at the same time you can see all of the wonderful festive presents for you pets and stocking fillers for your loved ones.' 'Also if you have a Secret Santa at work or group we have some fantastic items that would go down a treat!'
Please pop in for your Christmas Lottery tickets at the GSPCA Animal Shelter. The reception area is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, the shop area is closed all day Sunday.
