Last month we gave an update on Molly the Chihuahua and in case you missed it, Lorna Chadwick GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager kindly posted –

‘*MOLLY UPDATE* Molly has been with her wonderful foster family for nearly two weeks and she is one very lucky little dog!

Our gorgeous girl was so fortunate when Paul and Julia Watts offered to let her join their family. Not only does she have fabulous humans to look after her, she has a new older brother in Shadow the Boxer and she has settled in really well.

Julia and Paul are very experienced with dogs that have complicated veterinary needs, just like Molly. She has to take 4 types of medication every day and go for regular check-ups with the Vet. Due to the nature of her heart condition her health could deteriorate with little warning, so we are thankful that she has experienced eyes that can spot any changes in her health and behaviour, that might indicate she needs urgent assistance.

Julia and Paul have fostered for the GSPCA before, in fact Shadow was a foster dog that never left! Julia said that:

"Fostering an animal can help them recover from neglect, abuse, illness or injury or it can provide end of life care. These can be the first steps towards them finding a new, loving forever home, or ensuring their end of life is one of quality.

Through our experience of fostering we have become aware that some animals do not do well in Kennels. We have personally found it very rewarding to know that we have supported dogs to feel loved and cared for. All of our dogs have had unique personalities and that is what is so lovely they have been able to shine and let that personally come through.

Living in a domestic home has given our dogs the chance to be loved and cared for, either because they were ill or they had become highly anxious in the shelter.

We would strongly recommend that you might like to consider fostering as an option, the animals and the shelter (GSPCA) needs you. Be the reason an animal loves you as a human and think of all the benefits to your own well being that an animal can bring."

Lorna Chadwick who has been overseeing Molly's care said "End of life fostering is such a fantastic gift to give a dog. It's not for everyone but with the support of the GSPCA and donations from our wonderful Community we can give dogs like Molly a little bit more time to enjoy life."

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. If you would like to help Molly you can donate over the phone by calling 257261, by post or in person at the GSPCA, Rue Du Truchots, St Andrews, GY6 8UD
