In the early hours of this morning the GSPCA Head of Marine Mammals Geoff George was out collecting from the harbour the second grey seal pup of the season needing our help.
The seal pup named as Elisa was rescued in Jersey having beached at La Fregate at high tide on Monday. The pup was called into the JSPCA and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue Channel Islands went out to check the pup and sadly no mother could be seen and the condition of the pup was extremely worrying so it was rescued and taken to New Era Veterinary Hospital were it was cared for until the early hours of this morning when it was transported to Iris Freight and came by boat to Guernsey.

BDMLR Channel Islands posted on their facebook page ‘6 seal pups in less than a month. 2 taken in for extra care with New Era Veterinary Hospital & GSPCA, Guernsey SPCA & 4 still out there doing their seal pups thing, after multiple shifts from our volunteers monitoring them.

Geoff George said “Elisa arrived in the early hours this morning extremely thin and is now in our intensive care unit next to Aurore.”
“Both seal pups need around the clock care and tube feeding as they aren’t eating on their own yet.”
“On a real positive note Titan and Porkpie are ready to be released but we are looking for a good window in the weather before we let them go to give them the best chance.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With Elisa arriving this morning we now have 4 seal pups in our care, although we are hoping to release Pork Pie and Titan very soon.”
“A healthy seal pup at Elisa’s age should be twice the weight and no way as thin.”
“She like Aurore have a long road to recovery and we are doing all we can both these two poorly seal pups.”
“This time of year we see seal pups being born around the Channel Islands but it is extremely important to leave them alone and not approach as you can scare their mother away.”
