In the early hours today the GSPCA team were devastated as Blaze the grey seal pup passed away.
Found emaciated, with a number of ailments and injuries Blaze had been receiving treatment and around the clock care.
Despite making it through the first few nights Blaze passed away early this morning.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are extremely saddened to have to let everyone know that Blaze the grey seal pup passed away early this morning.”
“Being found so thin and unwell on Sunday the team and especially Head Of Marine Mammals Geoff had been working around the clock to care for Blaze, but she was extremely poorly and she passed away in the early hours.”
“It is devastating when an animal passes away as we all care so much for each of the animals in our care.”
“We still have Joey and Ellie the Jersey seal pupa and local pup Titan and all are doing well.”
“With such difficult times we really need your support and to donate to our work and the care of these seals and other animals please call 01481 257261, at the GSPCA, Rue des Truchots, St Andrews, Guernsey GY6 8UD or online https://giving.gg/donate/event/5876/GSPCA-Coronavirus-Emergency-Appeal .”

“We really couldn’t do so much without your support and every penny really helps make a difference.”
“As we keep sharing we are in the seal pup season now in the Channel Islands and if you see a seal pup please do not approach it but do take a picture and send it in and give us a call so we know where they are and assess they are okay.”
“By approaching a seal pup you could scare its mother away and put the pup at risk so please keep a very safe distance and do not allow your dogs anywhere near them.”
“For advice on what to do if you find injured wildlife please visit https://www.gspca.org.gg/animals/wildlife-advice or call us 24/7 on 01481 257261.”
