At the GSPCA we currently have over 100 domestic birds in our care many of which are ready and looking for loving new homes.
Most are aviary birds and range from quail and finches to a large selection of parakeets.
With just one mixed outdoor aviary housing 60+ small finches and quail, another aviary with nearly 20 cockatiels and a selection of other birds indoors looking for good homes at the GSPCA we have a real selection needing loving new owners.
The largest selection of birds in a very large outdoor aviary include Java Sparrows, Dimond Doves, Canaries, Chinese Painted Quail, Zebra Finches and a Bengalese Finch.
With all aviary birds we only rehome them to other aviary homes.
One of the most unusual birds at the GSPCA is Bunni a Sun Conure that is so bright she glows like the sun but with her vocal voice you need to have a home where you don’t mind the TV or radio being interrupted when she wants your attention.
One cockatiel in need of a home that has always lived in a large cage is Oliver often known as Ollie who can often be heard tweeting to the Adams Family theme tune.
The birds in our care have come from being found as strays like Beatrix the Princess of Wales Parakeet found in Torteval to Buttercup who is a cockatiel the owner decided they could no longer care for.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have a huge array of animals and especially birds in need of homes at the GSPCA.”
“We always love to see the birds in our care find loving new homes and to be ideally kept in large aviaries but we do have some that prefer their cages, with a real selection from the smallest of finches to large parakeets.”
“One of the most entertaining birds is Ollie who can tweet the Adams Family theme tune and the loudest would be Bunni the Sun Conure.”
“The Canaries have the prettiest songs and some even have funky hair styles.”
“The sweetest birds looking for homes are the Chinese Painted Quail that are very entertaining and we would love to find most of them aviary homes where they can enjoy room to fly about and spend time with others who they are happy with.”
“We help 1000’s of wild birds every year and 2017 is set to be the busiest in living memory of pet species in need of our help at the GSPCA.”
“If you are interested in adopted a bird or any of the animals at the Shelter you can find out more on our website www.gspca.org.gg, calling 257261, email [email protected] and the Shelter is open to visitors for a donation of £2 per person 7 days a week between 11am and 4pm and you can see many of them as most are in aviaries outside in the visitor areas.”
“When we rehome birds at the GSPCA there is an adoption process including an interview and we always like to see where they will be living so you can’t come up and take them on the same day.”
“Also for those wanting a new cage we do have a selection donated on sale at the Shelter from £15.”
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said “We have so many lovely birds in need of good homes at the GSPCA.”
“2017 has been an incredibly busy year for us at the Shelter.”
“We would love to hear from anyone that can help us offer these lovely birds new homes.”
