Every year the GSPCA are called out and receive stray dogs and cats during periods of fireworks that have either escaped or run off due to being scared by the loud bangs they make.
Tomorrow as part of the Harbour Carnival celebrations where we will be with a GSPCA fun games stall, they have planned at 9.45pm along the seafront a firework display. Also in Herm on Saturday at around 10.30pm there is also a firework display planned.
To help your dogs and cats during these very stressful times we have a SALE on Adaptil and Feliway products which are designed to appease your pets during times of difficulty. We have their new product range in also at a new price.
Feliway and Adaptil are pheromones used in many kennels and are very popular products with many to help settle animals in a number of circumstances.
Adaptil is a synthetic copy of the natural comforting pheromone released by a mother dog to reassure her puppies.
Feliway is a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone, used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure.
Adaptil and Feliway products are on sale at the Shelter and have proven to be very effective in calming anxious pets. You should purchase the product as soon as you can for maximum effectiveness on and around Fireworks night. The GSPCA is keen to help owners reduce their pet’s anxieties and now offers these products for almost 50% less than other outlets and even less with our current sale.
The GSPCA Old Stock Ceva Product Price List sales prices -
**Prices are correct as of June 2015 for new stock please pop in or call for details**
Our reception and shop area is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm (Closed Bank Holidays and Sundays)
Also we see less than 45% of the stray dogs and cats microchipped that are found and brought to the GSPCA, and even less have collars with tags.
During June at the GSPCA for only £3.99 (normally £4.99) you can get your dog or cat microchipped. We can do this Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm, although we do appreciate a call to let us know you would like to have your pet chipped as it can help speed the process which only takes a few minutes.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "I think everyone will remember what happened to poor Bertie last year during the fireworks when he run off after being scared by fireworks and we are still on the look out for him, although we've had no recent reports."
"On Friday along the seafront at 9.45pm and Saturday on Herm at 10.30pm we would like to warn all pet and animal owners of the firework displays that will be held."
"We currently have a sale on our Adaptil and Feliway products which help dogs and cats during times that they may find scary such as during fireworks."
"Adaptil is a synthetic copy of the natural comforting pheromone which is released by a mother dog to reassure her puppies and Feliway is a synthetic copy of the feline facial pheromone, used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure."
"We use both Adaptil and Feliway at the GSPCA and we will be doing a number of other good practices to ensure our animals are safe ready for tomorrows firework display."
"Please don't forget at the GSPCA to microchip your dog or cat during June it is only £3.99, normally £4.99 and we also have a calendar online where we display firework events that we are made aware of in Guernsey."
"At the Shelter we also have helpful leaflets and products to help your dogs and cats through the fireworks."
Here is additional advice regarding fireworks -
Thankfully the incidents of animals being injured by fireworks & bonfires in Guernsey are few and far between; but we mustn’t get too complacent. Below are some basic guidelines that will enable you to help all of our furry and feathered friends to stay calm and safe on and around Bonfire night.
Fireworks are exciting and pretty to look at and it is fun to celebrate Guy Fawkes with a bang, but for our furry and feathered friends this time of year can be a nightmare. Many animals domestic and wild suffer needlessly every year.
The GSPCA would like to urge everyone follow our animal friendly firework code and protect your pets and the local wildlife.
To notify us of your event please email the team at the GSPCA and we can add your firework display to our calendar. Please let us know the location, date and times it is planned for and also if it is public or a private event.
To let us know please call 01481 257261 or if you could email the following addresses one of the team will add it as soon as we can [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]
To help please cut and paste the following and input the details -

GSPCA relaunch capture for Jessie after her release from the trap this morning whilst on route to collect...
Posted by GSPCA on Wednesday, 17 June 2015
We are working closely with Jessie's owners to help in the search of their dog and we all appreciate the wonderful public support and reports so far.
We would like to highlight that Jessie is a very nervous and timid beagle cross who has only recently been adopted from a UK rescue and is scared by people and loud noises.
She is an 8 year old, female, white and brindle beagle cross with no collar.
If you do spot Jessie please call us at the GSPCA on 01481 257261
Please do not approach or try to catch her as it is likely to scare her away and not help with her safe capture.
If she is in a secure area where you can close a gate or door then please do so and give us a call at the Shelter immediately.
With all reports the time, location and direction of movement is extremely important.
If you are able to get a picture or video clip this would really help.
At the GSPCA we have team members at the end of a phone and manning our ambulance 24 hours a day.
We are doing everything we possibly can and our team are on stand by to help in the safe capture.
There is a reward for her safe return of £200.
To call the GSPCA please ring 01481 257261 and if you have any pictures please email them to [email protected]
We continue to help in the search of Bertie the stray schnauzer that went missing in November last year, but sadly we have had no reports in some time but if you see him please follow the same advice as above.
