At the GSPCA we help 1000’s of animals every year, but we have seen a drop in numbers of dogs and cats needing our help find homes locally, although we do help them in many other ways.

In recent years we have been trying to help animals from UK and Irish SPCA animal shelters and Association of Dog and Cat Home members, but with the Covid Pandemic this has been very difficult.

The GSPCA have rehomed quite a few animals at the start of 2022 so had some space and we have helped cats at the end of 2021 from RSPCA Wales, at the start of March the RSPCA Stubington Ark and on the 10th of April 2022 we helped 14 cats and kittens and one fox hound from the NW SPCA in Ireland.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We love finding animals new and loving homes at the GSPCA.”

“In recent years we haven’t seen the numbers needing homes locally needing our help, although we do help 1000’s in many ways, so when we can we reach out to SPCA and ADCH member charities needing help across the UK and Ireland.”

“We recently made contact with the North West SPCA based in Ireland who have had their foster homes full and really needed some help, so earlier this month we managed to get the paperwork in order and one of the team to meet 14 cats and kittens and one dog.”

“The new felines that arrived were Banksy, Barrett, Barry, Daisy, Danny, Flora, Ginny, Jupiter, Sandy, Peter, Poppi, Ron, Scout and Willow and the fox hound who was found as a stray originally is called Dee.”

“All are doing so well and are all fabulous characters.”

“We have a list of families and homes looking for cats, kittens and dogs and the team are working through these, but anyone interested in adopting an animal from the GSPCA if they could complete an adoption application form and send it in as we are hoping to help these and others over the summer.”

“The stories behind many of the new arrivals are very sad due to the rescue circumstances and it is wonderful that they are now starting to go to their new forever homes here in Guernsey.”

“At the GSPCA we want to help dogs and cats find homes and when we have room we concentrate on UK and Irish rescues as we don’t want to bring in zoonotic diseases into Guernsey.”

Sarah Langlois GSPCA staff member said “It was fantastic to bring back the 14 cats, kittens and 1 dog back to Guernsey on the 10th April.”

“They all travelled so well from where we picked them up from and it is lovely to see some of them go to their new homes.”

Ali Le Huray GSPCA staff member said “It was great to wave of the first Irish kittens to their new homes yesterday.”

“We have one with one eye, one with three legs and lots of them are looking for homes in pairs.”

“If you are looking for a new cat or cats please do complete one of our adoption forms.”

Lorna Chadwick GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager said “Dee the fox hound is doing very well although she was very shy when she arrived.”

“She is now up for adoption, but we would ideally like to find a home where the owner has some experience with fox hounds.”

“Please do fill in a dog adoption form and send it in if you are interested in Dee.”

Steve continued “There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”

“With over 100 hedgehogs, 4 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”

“If you would like to support our Amazon Wish List and see lists of items that we use every day and things that we are appealing for.”

“If would like to help with wish list items you can call us on 01481 25721 or email [email protected] or the easy way to see many items we are in need  is by going to our Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”

“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”

“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”

“Sadly Amazon Smile doesn’t allow Guernsey charities to sign up but you can go through easy fund raising to achieve the same donation.”

“As mentioned you can always chose to donate via local stores and the Amazon Wish List is a shop front showing some of the items we need but there are many others and we have published these on our Wish List page http://www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list .”

“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”

“Another amazing way to support our work is by just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”
