At the GSPCA we help 1000’s of cats every year but the numbers looking for homes have been decreasing over the years.
This has meant from time to time we have space in our cat pens and when we are able we help charities which are members of the Association of Cats and Dogs Home (ADCH) which are based across the British Isles and Ireland.
On Friday 29th October 2021 the GSPCA helped 5 cats from the RSPCA in Wales which were in need.
3 cats now called Pumpkin, Spook and Casper were originally rescued from a multi cat house hold where they had little to no care or handling.
Also two young stray cats, Sabrina who is recovering from a flea allergy and Jason who is extremely playful.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We want to say a huge thanks to Condor Ferries in their support in enabling us to take a van to Wales to help 5 cats in need I the care of the RSPCA.”
“Sadly due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to help like we have in the past charities who are members of the ADCH.”
“The 5 cats were being cared for at a private boarding cattery in Caerphilly as the RSPCA Animal Centres are full.”
“All 5 cats haven’t had the best start in life and with room at the GSPCA it is great that we can work together and help charities like ourselves who help animals in need.”
“Pumpkin, Spook and Sabrina have had a really hard start in life having been rescued from a multi cat home and Sabrina has had a nasty flea allergy, with Jason being the most fun loving and naughty young cat now in our cattery.”
“All 5 cats are undergoing an health and behaviour assessment and with be put up for adoption hopefully very soon.”
Greg Yeoman, Condor’s Commercial Director, commented “We can see from the number and variety of animals carried in a given year how much Islanders think of their pets.”
“The team at the GSPCA does a super job so we were happy to support them with this initiative.”
Anna Paint GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant said “We are settling the 5 cats from the RSPCA in our cattery and all are doing very well.”
“Unfortunately Pumpkin, Spook and Casper are very nervous after their difficult start in life and Sabrina is under vet care because of her skin problems.”
“Jason is a bundle of fun always trying to escape as soon as a door is open.”
“Anyone interested in adopting a cat we would ask them to see our procedure and fill in a form which you can find by going to http://www.gspca.org.gg/animals .”
“We are hoping they will be ready for rehoming soon but just want to make sure they are all healthy and decide what type of home each of them will need.”
Steve continued “There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”
“With over 100 hedgehogs, 3 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”
“If you would like to support our Amazon Wish List and see lists of items that we use every day and things that we are appealing for.”
“If would like to help with wish list items you can call us on 01481 25721 or email [email protected] or the easy way to see many items we are in need is by going to our Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”
“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”
“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”
“Sadly Amazon Smile doesn’t allow Guernsey charities to sign up but you can go through easy fund raising to achieve the same donation.”
“As mentioned you can always chose to donate via local stores and the Amazon Wish List is a shop front showing some of the items we need but there are many others and we have published these on our Wish List page http://www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list .”
“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”
“Another amazing way to support our work is by just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”
“To make a donation you can go to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) .”
“We couldn’t do so much without your support.”
