GSPCA Purple Week - Guided tours & see the seals tomorrow (Friday) & next Tuesday for only £5

As part of GSPCA Purple Week celebrating 140 years caring for animals in Guernsey we are offering guided tours around the Animal Shelter for a minimum donation of £5 per person tomorrow and next Tuesday.
The tours are approximately 45 minutes long and will include a short visit to see our grey seal pups through one way glass in our wildlife unit as well as the hedgehogs.
We currently have over 200 animals and birds in our care at the GSPCA and all need feeding, watering, medications and around the clock care. Jethou Bumblebee and Hanois the seals are just two of the residents you will see on the guided tours but Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager and Shelter staff will show you around and talk to you about the many other animals in our care, the work we do and plans at the GSPCA.
Tours will be at 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm starting at the Event and Training Room. If groups are too large we may need to stagger the hourly start, as we can only take restricted numbers into certain buildings.
At the end of the tour you will receive a newsletter and can relax with a cup of coffee and cake which will be on sale and browse the bric-a-brac and pet supplies which will be laid out in the Event and Training Room at the Shelter in St Andrews which has been home to the GSPCA since 1929.

Geoff George Animal Collection Officer and main carer for the seals said 'Both seals are doing very well and we are hoping to release them next month.'
'We are letting people visit them at the Shelter tomorrow but it will be controlled and visitors will have to keep the volume very low as not to stress them.'
'They are wild animals and we need to get them ready for release, so we have fitted one way glass so we can monitor them but they won't be able to see us.'
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'The money we raise will go towards the Big Fish Appeal that has helped feed Hanois and Jethou Bumblebee but also to help the many other animals in our care.'
'Only yesterday we had to rush a cat we have called Pip to the vets who is still there as he's not very well at all after being rescued by Geoff.'
'We help 1000's of animals every year and these days are two opportunity's you have to come up and see rescued animals and those looking for homes.'
No appointment necessary but if you are bringing a large group please call before you arrive on 01481 257261. Also we do ask that there is one adult per 6 children for these visits. We look forward seeing you and may have further tours in the near future.
Today is our 140th birthday as were founded on the 14th February 1873. If you pop along to our Coffee and Bric-a-brac morning today you can see a few of our animals, enjoy cake and we are also offering free mircochipping for dogs and cats between 10am and 12pm as part of the celebrations, normally £4.99.

World Stray Day – On the 4th April it is World Stray Day and the GSPCA will be holding a Coffee Morning, Bric-a-brac sale and microchipping event.
