Last Tuesday just after 1030am the GSPCA welcomed Sue Wood RHS Judge from Harrogate in the UK and Alan Dorey a local judge along with St Andrews Floral Group, their many volunteers and supporters, as well as a number of guests.
After a tour of St Andrews Parish with Group Leader Ann Wragg the judging group arrived at the Animal Shelter where the local Floral Group along with scores of supporters and helpers have been transforming the group into a rich and stunning place for visitors and local wildlife.
Tea and cake tents were on hand to provide refreshments with volunteers and many involved with projects to talk to the judges about all that has gone on in the last 12 months from the Poison Garden to the Bee project work.
Judging was is in aid of the 2017 Floral Guernsey Community Competition and the judges spent last week visiting other Parishes to see how beautiful and how much hard work goes on around the island to make it such a stunning island to live and visit.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager “Every year the grounds of the GSPCA have been improved in recent years primarily thanks to Ann Wragg and the St Andrews Floral Group for their amazing hard work and all that have supported them.”
“We are so grateful to Ann and the team and it was wonderful to meet the RHS judges and show them what we have achieved at the GSPCA and the plans for the future.”
“It would be wonderful if all Parishes in Guernsey excel in the awards and a special good luck to St Andrews Floral Group who do so much for us and wildlife here at the GSPCA.”
Ann Wragg Group Leader from St Andrews Floral Group said “Thank you to everyone that made last Tuesday such a wonderful experience for the judges and of course all of their hard work in St Andrews.”
“We had everyone from the GSPCA to the Work to Benefit team who have helped on hand and as well as the man parish volunteers.”
“We have recently opened the Poison Garden at the GSPCA and have other plans coming in the near future and we are always looking for volunteers, supporters and donations to help with this work helping nature as well as the Parish look as nice as we can make and would love to hear from anyone wanting to get involved.”
