Earlier this month the GSPCA and St Andrews Floral Group attended this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition.
There were four Bailiwick entries taking part in this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition who were recognised for their achievements at this year’s awards evening including St Andrews Floral Group.
Forest secured the overall winning place with a GOLD AWARD and the prestigious Lady Dorey Trophy with Herm and St Andrews also securing GOLD AWARDS and St Saviours a SILVER AWARD.
The GSPCA Manager was awarded a Special Commendation with his efforts promoting and fund raising for the work at the GSPCA with St Andrews Floral Group. Also the Work to Benefit or CEPs team who do a huge amount to help St Andrews Floral Group and the GSPCA received a Special Commendation.
The Ossie Falla Trophy for Outstanding Contribution to a Community went to the GSPCA and St Andrews Floral Group for a second year running and the Young Peoples Award for Outstanding Contribution to a Community Project went to Hemu Khankashi for her arts mural at the GSPCA after St Andrews Floral Group approached Blanchelande College for help to decorate a wall at the Animal Shelter.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Over the last two years the St Andrews Floral Group have helped us achieve amazing things around the GSPCA from giving our pond new life, planting hedging and the wonderful hanging baskets, planting around the animal areas for environmentally enrichment, bringing 100’s of volunteers and £1000’s in grant funding, helped achieve an educational Poison Garden, a picnic area, viewing areas for the pond, increased bird and bat boxes, other organisations, quite a bit of wedding and so much more.”
“We are hugely grateful to Ann the Group Leader and the St Andrews Floral Group for all the have helped in improving biodiversity around the GSPCA and making the grounds so nice for visitors and the animals in our care.”
“Earlier this month we were invited along to this year's Floral Guernsey Community Competition which took place at the lovely Les Cotils and also where we were all surprised and humbled to be showered in so many awards and recognitions.”
“It was lovely to show the judges around in July and they were so interested in all we were doing at the GSPCA with the St Andrews Floral Group.”
“The work doesn’t stop as we start planting around our memorial garden and we are appealing for granite to help in and around this area if anyone has some spare.”
“We are always looking for help and support with the gardening, conservation and grounds work and anyone wanting to help please do let us know.”
Ann Wragg St Andrews Floral Group Leader said “It was wonderful when St Andrews Floral Group were awarded Gold as all of the team of volunteers work so hard to make our Parish look so nice and to be recognised in so many ways was a real honour and so humbling for the Parish.”
“We have been helping the GSPCA for over 2 years now and helped transform the grounds at the Animal Shelter who work so hard to help the animals and wildlife in Guernsey.”
“We have a number of projects we are hoping to achieve and we would love to hear from anyone who would like to help, support or even donate to any of the work we are doing for our community and the wildlife of Guernsey.”
