This week we have the fantastic news from Avid the microchip company used by the GSPCA Animal Shelter that we have been a winner in their quarterly competition for a state of the art microchip scanner.

The Avid Minitracker 3 scanner is one of the best on the market and will help ensure that stray animals that find their way to the Shelter can be reunited quickly to their owners.

The scanner comes just at the right time as this Thursday the 4th October it is World Animal Day and to celebrate the GSPCA is holding a free chipping event at the Shelter (although donations are welcomed).  The event is between 11am and 4pm and more details are below.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'It is brilliant news that we have won of these scanners from Avid.'  'We see dozens of stray animals every week and this scanner will come in extremely useful.'  'We go in the drawer very quarter and to help with future chances to win if supporters would please register their email address with them and choose ourselves we could win another in the future.'

Thank you to Avid and the team there who run this wonderful free competition helping charities to save money.

Details of the World Animal Event at the GSPCA Animal Shelter -

This Thursday is World Animal Day and to celebrate the Animal Shelter will be holding an open day and free microchipping at the Shelter.

From 11am to 4pm on the 4th October the Shelter will be opening the doors for members of public to pop in to shop around our animal supplies, bric-a-brac we have on sale, other donated items such as games, toys, GSPCA key rings, mugs, polo shirts, jumpers, fridge magnets, engraved animal tags and much more.

There will be a seating area where we will be selling tea, coffee and pop as well as a selection of cakes, sweets and crisps.

At 11.30am, 2pm and 3pm there will be guided tours around the Shelter for a donation for those interested.

If your dog or cat isn't microchipped then this can be done for free with no appointment needed but we are asking for a donation to help the many animals in our care at the GSPCA.  We do ask that cats are brought in secure baskets and dogs are kept on leads.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'The Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday earlier this month was a fantastic event and showed how much people in Guernsey loved animals and we are so grateful to all those that got involved and helped.'  'World Animal Day is only a week away and this event is a small way to help animals in Guernsey as we see only 1 in 3 dogs and cats coming into the Shelter as strays being microchipped.'  'Microchipping is only £4.99 at the Shelter and at Guernsey Animal Aid but the last free event we held was a fantastic success and we are inviting those owners of dogs and cats that aren't done to pop in next Thursday to ensure their loved pet has a better chance of being reunite with them if they go missing.'

If you would like to volunteer on the day, help or would like more details then either email [email protected] call the GSPCA on 01481 257261 or pop in to the Shelter in St Andrews.

We look forward seeing you on Thursday.
