Earlier this month we held our annual #GSPCAPurpleWeek which this year celebrated 147 years of the GSPCA helping animals in Guernsey.
During our anniversary event we held our second Volunteer Induction of 2020 and greeted 18 new faces keen to help us at the GSPCA.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Training and Community Officer was on hand to greet and meet the new helpers wanting to help in a variety of ways and made them comfortable in one of our training rooms.
After a 90 minute induction each got the chance to speak to Tim about how they’d like to help and dates for many were set and we have had many of the 18 already help in many ways.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Community and Training Officer said “It was a great Volunteer Induction Evening during #GSPCAPurpleWeek and an amazing 18 new volunteers attended.”
“Some were for Duke of Edinburgh placements and others wanted to help in any way they can and we’ve already had many start by walking dogs, cleaning out cats, caring for rabbits and in lots of other ways.”
"Thank you so much to each and everyone for coming."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We really couldn’t achieve so much without our volunteers who help literally 24/7 365 days a year in all areas of our work.”
“We inducted 20 new volunteers last month and this takes it to 38 new volunteers inducted through these evening so far in 2020 which is so amazing and we are so grateful.”
“Every week we have 120 volunteers and placements help and over 800 every year from driving the ambulance to fund raising, reception to gardening, cleaning out the animals to painting so there really is something for everyone keen to help and with the time whether every week or now and again.”
“We have Volunteer Induction Evenings planned every month through the year and the next takes place on Thursday 12th March 2020 at 630pm.”
“To find out more about volunteering please check out https://www.gspca.org.gg/about/volunteers call 01481 257261 or email me on [email protected] .”
“We also love to hear from groups, schools and businesses keen to get involved.”
“Holding a Volunteer Induction during #GSPCAPurpleWeek really helped focus the teams thoughts as we remembered 147 years ago that week a group of volunteers came together to create the GSPCA and what an incredible history we have had so far and great plans for the future.”
