The GSPCA launched a Guernsey Firework Survey 2025 last week to gauge islanders thoughts, experiences and feelings on the current situation with fireworks in Guernsey and have already received 1911 responses.
Every year islanders share there views online in regards fireworks from those that support them to those that have experienced negative situations for a range of reasons.
To take the survey please visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LH7678N

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “This year we have seen more private firework events over a longer period of time than in some years and due to this the GSPCA launched a Guernsey Firework Survey 2025 last week to find out islanders feelings on these events and feedback good or bad and we have already had more than 1911 responses.”
“This means we have to upgrade our Survey Monkey account and if anyone would like to donate towards this you can do so online by going to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA) or calling 257261.”
“At the GSPCA we have had challenges in helping a number of animals and even at the Shelter seen those in our care upset and distressed due to fireworks but we want to know islanders thoughts.”
“When the GSPCA has a chance to talk on fireworks we promote islanders to attend organised events and to use silent fireworks or even attend laser shows if possible to reduce the stress and upset it can cause to animals and people.”
“One of the major issues that does concern us is the plastic and other material waste caused and with over 100 events this month that must equate to 1000’s of bits of plastic and other waste littering our land and seas, not to mention the distress it can cause.”
“We have had quite a number of reports of rocket waste in fields where livestock and horses were residing upsetting owners.”
“We have been involved with and heard of a number of instances that has led to lost and distressed animals as well as owners and public due to the number of events, not to mention the death of an aviary of budgies and as such launched the survey to gauge feelings of islanders.”
“Thankfully we haven’t seen any wildlife injured needing rescuing and our care due to fireworks this month and every period of fireworks that we are aware of we promote safety messages to help prevent stress to owned animals and how to avoid injuring wildlife and it is pleasing to see that thankfully we don’t see as many incidents as in the past.”
“Saying this there is another event planned this Saturday we are aware of and we are aware there have been quite a number of events that weren’t registered with the States from the feedback we have seen so far.”
“There are now only two retailers of fireworks who do not release them until days before November 5th and the States of Guernsey register and alert page for fireworks has certainly helped islanders know in advance when events and where they take place.”
“On the 5th November there were over 60 registered events which you can see on our firework page as well as many in the days either side and as mentioned another on the 16th November which is a private event.”
“We continue to gather opinions and would love to know your feelings on fireworks so please do take a few minutes to complete our survey https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LH7678N .”
“We hope to review the responses next week and publish the results.”
