Guernsey hedgehog survey - Please help Charlotte with her final university project about the hedgehog population in Guernsey

Charlotte Le Marquand is from Guernsey and currently a zoology student at Swansea University undertaking her final year project under the supervision of Dr Dan Forman.
The main focus of my project is to understand the distribution and abundance of hedgehogs in Guernsey. Charlotte has previously undertaken some volunteer work with the GSPCA during 2009 and has also visited the Shelter with a veterinary surgeon from Les Eturs Veterinary Centre while on work experience in 2013 and also this summer as we are helping support her with her project.
The GSPCA have been helping Charlotte with our existing distribution data of the many Guernsey hedgehogs admitted at the Shelter.
Charlotte is keen to hear from anyone who has seen a hedgehog in the last five years. She would also like to hear from you if you have not seen one in the last five years, but remember seeing one before then.
Please email her via [email protected] by Friday 30th September 2016 detailing:
1. Date and Time
2. Location – which parish, do you know the post code or grid reference/perry's code?
3. Number – was it a solitary individual or perhaps a female with young?
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have been looking at working and helping someone to run a local hedgehog survey and it was lovely to meet Charlotte this week who is doing just that."
"Last week we were helping with a university cat behaviour project and it is wonderful that we are able to learn from the animals in our care and those we help in the wild of Guernsey whenever we can."
"All of the hedgehogs we help are microchipped before they are released so we know if they come back to us that we have helped them before and every year we help in excess of 300 hedgehogs with the summer being the busiest time."
