We love to hear how animals are getting on after being rehomed from the GSPCA.
Dude who was recently rehomed was originally caught as a stray using one of our cat traps.
He was an unneutered male and kept fathering kittens and pestering female cats in the area he was living in and didn’t have anyone caring for him.
Ali Le Huray GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Dude came in last year.”
“He was not neutered when he arrived and kept chasing female cats.”
“When he arrived he had a few health issues we were concerned about, but after a lot of care he went up for adoption.”
“It took a while to find him the right home and it was lovely to hear how well he is settling into his new home.”
Sarah Finch his new owner recently sent us this update ‘Day 1 - Left him in quiet room to settle, but by evening realised he came out of hiding when I was in the room, and went back into hiding when I left - the opposite of what I expected! Breakthrough at 9pm, ate his biscuits, head bumped me, rubbed against me, sat on my lap. Slept on bed for a couple of hours before going underneath the bed, where he can hardly fit!
Day 2 - Stayed under bed until lunch time, then emerged to eat and have a long held-in wee. I tried to play with him, not interested. More cuddles in afternoon. Became braver at exploring. Sat on arm of sofa whilst I ate tea. Sat on my lap during evening, did a bit of grooming. Stayed on bed all night.
Day 3 - Hid under bed all morning. Sat on me all afternoon
All in all he's eating, drinking, loves a lap, but anxious when left alone and retreats to his safe spot wedged under the bed. Faster progress than I expected, and I hope it continues.
He's a lovely boy. Thanks for all you did for him.’
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Dude was a lovely cat and it is so lovely to hear how well he is settling in.”
“With the run up to Christmas we don’t want to see pets used as presents but if a someone is serious about adopting an animal in need we would love to hear from them.”
“We don’t stop all rehoming over Christmas as we look at each home on a case by case basis.”
“For example we have some fish looking for a good home and if someone was interested and the fish would be able to settle in the right way then we would certainly consider it.”
“However a family looking at adopting an older cat which are planning Christmas parties then we would suggest waiting until after the festive period.”
“Anyone wanting to adopt a cat the best thing to do is complete one of our questionnaires which are online and at our reception.”
“We have lots of animals in need of homes from cockerels to turtles, a snake to a quail, ferrets to a parrot.”
“If you can’t adopt a pet, please consider donating to their care to help give them an extra special Christmas.”

“With over 100 hedgehogs, 6 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”
“If you would like to support our Amazon Wish List and see lists of items that we use every day and things that we are appealing for.”
“If would like to help with wish list items you can call us on 01481 25721 or email [email protected] or the easy way to see many items we are in need is by going to our Amazon Wish List https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/25MJPPDAGXHL1?type=WishList .”
“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”
“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”
“Sadly Amazon Smile doesn’t allow Guernsey charities to sign up but you can go through easy fund raising to achieve the same donation.”
“As mentioned you can always chose to donate via local stores and the Amazon Wish List is a shop front showing some of the items we need but there are many others and we have published these on our Wish List page http://www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list .”
“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”
“Another amazing way to support our work is by just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”
