At the GSPCA we help all types of animals and recently we helped three gerbils find a new home.
Rory, Lorelai & Emily arrived at the GSPCA in September as the owner could no longer care for them.
Earlier this month Rory, Lorelai & Emily found a fabulous new home.
Nicolle Morgan GSPCA Animal Care Assistant who heads up the Small Animal Department said “Rory, Lorelai & Emily arrived at the GSPCA in September.”
“Trying to find the small animals a loving home can be a challenge and at the moment we have a hamster, guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets, snake, turtles, parrot, degus and many more in need.”
“Rory, Lorelai & Emily the gerbils found a really lovely home earlier this month and its great to hear that they are settling in so well.”
Sally Le Maitre who adopted the gerbils said “I wanted to let you know that the lovely gerbils we adopted last week are settling in well.”
“They seem to trust us already and come out and sniff our hands, Emily has even allowed us a cuddle.”
“Rory is the more lively one, she’ll come for a sniff, but any movement and zoom she’s gone!”
“We’ve discovered they love blueberries and have enjoyed chewing some straw and egg boxes.”
“It’s amazing to see the new tunnels they make over night.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Rory, Lorelai & Emily the gerbils seem really happy in their new home and thank you to Sally for sending us the update.”
“With the run up to Christmas we don’t want to see pets used as presents but if a someone is serious about adopting an animal in need we would love to hear from them.”
“We don’t stop all rehoming over Christmas as we look at each home on a case by case basis.”
“For example we have some fish looking for a good home and if someone was interested and the fish would be able to settle in the right way then we would certainly consider it.”
“However a family looking at adopting an older cat which are planning Christmas parties then we would suggest waiting until after the festive period.”
“Anyone wanting to adopt a cat the best thing to do is complete one of our questionnaires which are online and at our reception.”
“We have lots of animals in need of homes from cockerels to turtles, a snake to a quail, ferrets to a parrot.”
“If you can’t adopt a pet, please consider donating to their care to help give them an extra special Christmas.”

“We do promote buying items locally but shopping online can help raise funds at the same time as if you select the GSPCA through easy fund raising part of the amount through 1000’s of online retailers comes back to the GSPCA and it has raised over £2500.”
“To sign up to do this please visit http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/guernseyspca/?u=1CHID8 .”
“Sadly Amazon Smile doesn’t allow Guernsey charities to sign up but you can go through easy fund raising to achieve the same donation.”
“As mentioned you can always chose to donate via local stores and the Amazon Wish List is a shop front showing some of the items we need but there are many others and we have published these on our Wish List page http://www.gspca.org.gg/about/our-plans-wish-list .”
“A gift of a tiny bowl costing less than a £1 to a £600 intensive care unit, every donation is hugely appreciated and really makes the team smile that there are those that care and want to support our work.”
“Another amazing way to support our work is by just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to http://www.gspca.org.gg/sites/default/files/Angel%20sponsor%20form%20special%202018%20new.pdf .”
