Yesterday the team at the GSPCA welcomed Heidi Chambers and her family for a guided tour at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
RSPCA Chief Inspector Heidi Chambers is in Guernsey visiting family and has known the GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne for many years as they were colleagues when he worked for the RSPCA in the UK.
Steve gave Heidi and her family a behind the scenes tour of the GSPCA and explained the 24/7 work carried out here in Guernsey helping animals and the community.
Heidi runs a team of RSPCA Inspectors and Officers in the Leeds area where they see some of the highest numbers of cruelty cases in the UK.
Heidi and her family were extremely impressed with the set up at the GSPCA and commented how wonderful the facilities and plans for the future were.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It was lovely to see Heidi again and show her around the GSPCA we have known each other for many years and still communicate when needing to exchange knowledge for animal welfare reasons."
"The RSPCA founded in 1824 and the GSPCA in 1873 and it is because of the RSPCA that there are so many animal charities around the world today."
"The GSPCA is a Guernsey charity and is completely funded by the local community but we work and communicate closely with hundreds of charities around the world each year and really appreciate the wonderful relationship we have with charities like the RSPCA."
"In July we host a meeting where over 130 dog and cat charities will be invited to Guernsey and no doubt members of the RSPCA team will come and visit as part of the Association of Dog and Cats Home meeting."
"Heidi and her family were really impressed with the set up at the GSPCA and how we manage to do so much and it was a real joy to show an old friend and colleague around our Shelter here in St Andrews and we all hope she has a fantastic holiday break from such a busy role with the RSPCA helping thousands of animals every year in the UK."
Before Heidi left she thanked Steve and the team and did a little shopping for some GSPCA goods before she headed off to enjoy the remainder of her break.
