Last week the GSPCA team took part in training in Pet Bereavement thanks to the Guernsey Bereavement Service.

Sadly every day of the year staff and volunteers at the GSPCA help owners of pets that have died, whether recently or in the past and it is always hard to know if you are saying the right thing.

Two volunteers from the Guernsey Bereavement Service gave an interactive presentation and explained where help can be found in Guernsey and how to help those suffering from loss on Wednesday and Friday last week.

At the GSPCA we offer a Pet Cremation Service  and help over 1000 families every year with their loss, which this year through lock down proved more challenging than any other year but has resulted in us now operating a delivery option for those too upset to collect their pets ashes.

During lock down it was extremely difficult helping those bereaved pet owners and their families. Last year to helped bereaved pet owners we opened our Chapel of Rest and Pet Memorial Garden which are still open but with our Covid-19 precautions please contact us before visiting these areas as we have restrictions and procedures on site.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers from Guernsey Bereavement Service for helping provide the training sessions for the team here at the GSPCA last week.”

“For many years we have been working closely with the Guernsey Bereavement Service and we are hugely grateful for their support.”

“The GSPCA team all enjoyed and took a lot from the training from Guernsey Bereavement Service, it was really appreciated from all at the GSPCA as well as quite emotional for many as we care so much for animals and striving to provide the best service we can.”

“Bereavement is difficult no matter the circumstances and we are so grateful to all at Guernsey Bereavement Service for all of their support for our team at the GSPCA and the community of Guernsey.”
