It is amazing how we are supported in such a range of ways at the GSPCA.

On the 17th September a team of 20 staff from Specsavers from across the UK gave up a day in the office to help out at the GSPCA.

Tim Pellet GSPCA Community and Training Officer said “We have some amazing friends and supporters at Specsavers and on the 17th September we welcomed a wonderful group who were such an amazing help at the GSPCA.”

“From gardening to washing our ambulances, cleaning to helping around site the team were amazing and we are so thankful to them all.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are in awe in the many ways those that care about our animal welfare work support us at the GSPCA carry out our 24/7 work.”

“Last month we welcome an awesome team of volunteers from Specsavers not from just locally but some over from the UK.”

“They did so much from cleaning pathes, weeding, cutting hedges, planting, clearing pathes and so much more.”

“To everyone at Specsavers a huge thank you for your support it is so appreciated and we look forward seeing you again soon.”

“We couldn’t do so much without your support.”

Some words from the lovely Adam & Becks from Specsavers on the day:‘The Global Customer Engagement and Ecommerce team arrived at the GSPCA, suited, booted, and ready for action. We even sported Specsavers-branded bucket hats, which gave off a gamekeeper vibe—perfect for the task at hand. The hats came in handy as we were lucky to enjoy some stunning Guernsey weather. After a quick introduction with Tim, it became clear that the GSPCA team is fully dedicated to caring for the many animals that come through their doors. Every staff member we met was deeply passionate about the well-being of the animals, which was truly humbling.

With all the focus on the animals, the grounds and site needed some maintenance. Throughout the day, we cleared overgrown vegetation, planted shrubs, and installed nesting boxes in the remembrance garden. The most sought-after job, by far, was pressure washing. Not to mention painting buildings to a fresh finish. Matt’s approach to ladder safety with an electric chainsaw had us all holding our breath, but he somehow managed to keep both the garden and himself in one piece.

While some of us were busy carving out new garden paths, others “took one for the team” by walking dogs and playing with them in the run—it’s tough work, but someone had to do it! There were also cats, rabbits, ferrets, and a rescued loggerhead turtle!

We had a brilliant day at the GSPCA in Guernsey, where our team came together under the sunshine to tackle all sorts of tasks—with a little humour and a lot of enthusiasm. With our team uniforms of bucket hats, tea in one hand and a biscuit in the other, we powered through the day. Growing closer as a team and bonding over our shared love of animals.

Again thank you so much, as mentioned before we left I hope we can do it again!!’
